Tips on getting results from GP reception

I had lots of blood tests taken a few months ago, whats the best way to go about getting my results from my GP? Am I likely to be refused by the receptionist?

Worth ringing beforehand or just turning up, or getting an appointment and asking GP directly? (I won't waste an appointment as I have to discuss something anyway) but had wondered about getting result print out before seeing GP so I can go in prepared.

Any tips? I get quite anxious and flustered, so if they say no, I'm not likely to be comfortable fighting my corner if you see what I mean, sadly.

Call them.up and say you'd like to collect print out of your last time (or more) done blood test results for all blood markers on such and such date.

That's all.

If she say doctor needs to approve, say that's ok, please make sure it's ready by (insert your desired date).

If she refuses (the receptionist) straight on, say in line with recent EU regulations you have right to see your results for free. If she still refuses, say you'll make official complaint.

I doubt last two will happen, if they used to other patients taking results there'll be no.problem at all from the get go. If not she'll probably feed you "doctor approval needed BS" first after which you'll get your results.

Hi

You can do as suggested below, but, does your surgery offer on line services?, booking appointments on line.

Mine does and I can also access my blood results on line as well.

Ask the receptionist if they offer this, if so, request this.

You need to take additional ID and the receptionist then needs to run it by your GP.

I would ring Reception and request results saying you will be in to collect them in a couple of days - they are legally yours 😊 Lots of posts here about it and the Data Protection Act - try the Search Facility ...

PS Just typed Data Protectio into Search under the heading More - if you are on a phone - loads of posts came up !

Thanks for the replies, I do have online access to prescriptions and appointments, so will ask next time I'm in about access to results too. It's there but not activated.

Link to NHS website about obtaining records :-)

Start fighting please, but in an assertive way, not aggressively, practice makes perfect just try it.

My Gp's surgury is brilliant I can ring up to ask for a printed copy of my results, as long as the Doctors seen them, and half an hour later they will be sitting in a envelope at reception waiting for me to pick them up. Just have to contact them between certain times in the afternoon when they are not so busy.

Just ask politely. If the receptionist refuses, just ask politely to be put through to the practice manager. The receptionist will then ask how you would like your results. She/he will not want to put you through to the manager!

When I phone to ask, I get a sigh, and usually the response "oh yes, you are THAT one!"(I think it must flash up on the screen or something!) to which I usually reply "Yes, the one who wants to keep myself well".
