Latest test results. What's going on????

Hello all,

I've just got my results back from my latest Medichecks Thyroid Check UltraVit test, and the results have quite surprised me. I'd be very grateful, as always, for recommendations as to what I should be doing now.

I have Hashimoto's and have been on 25 mcg of T3 since March and have kept levo at 200 mcg. I used to be on 40 mg Omeprazole (for acid reflux and Barrett's Oesophagus) but reduced this to 20 mg a few months ago and have taken no Omeprazole at all for the last 3 weeks. I do get some mild burning, but have been taking Gaviscon to deal with this.

As I'm a teacher and currently on summer break, I decided to start an elimination diet in the hope of determining my food triggers. I have therefore been eating just meat and drinking only water for the last 3 weeks. I also knocked the various supplements that I was taking on the head (Vit D3 spray, Vit K2 MK-7, B Complex, Methyl B12 lozenges and vitamin C) which probably wasn't the wisest move in hindsight. My idea was to cut out what was going into my body as much as possible in order to get an absolute baseline. During the last few weeks, I have noticed that my brain fog is now the worst it's ever been, I feel very spaced out all day and I continue to feel absolutely awful in the morning. It's a real struggle to get out of bed and get going!

My results are as follows:

Thyroid results: March to August 2018

TSH: 0.164 to 0.021 [0.27-4.20]

Free T4: 18.6 to 28.2 [12-22]

Free T3: 4.58 to 6.76 [3.10-6.80]

Other results: February to August 2018

Thyroglobulin antibodies: <10 to <10 [0-115]

Thyroid Peroxide antibodies: 135 to 100 [0-34]

Active B12: 128 to 126 [25.10-165]

Folate: 15.97 to 9.64 [2.91-50]

Vitamin D: 83 to 63.8 [50-200]

Inflammation CRP: 2.1 to 1.91 [0-5]

Ferritin: 217 to 434 [30-400]

My gut feeling was that the levothyroxine was possibly at too high a dose, though I'm wondering if it doesn't agree with me, full stop. My recollection is that the brain fog seemed to start around the time that I was first prescribed levo. Is it worth considering NDT? Or possibly even T3 only?

As I said at the beginning, I would very much appreciate some guidance as to what I should do next.

Many thanks,

Steve

Apart from restarting your supplements, I don't think there's anything much to be done. Looks to me like you've had a Hashi's 'hyper' swing. Which is nothing to do with your dose. The levels will go down again by themselves.

However, I'm surprised you stayed on such a high dose of levo when you started T3. Any particular reason for not reducing it?

The only worrying thing is your ferritin. It's very high. Were you supplementing that?

Thank you greygoose for you quick reply. When I posted test results back in February, when my T4 was at 16.9 and lower than it was in March, the general advice that I received was to keep my levo at the same dose.

I agree that the Ferritin is a bit of a worry, though I'm not entirely sure what that indicates. No, I wasn't supplementing any ferritin.

Could be all the meat your eating, then.

Well, I don't know why they advised you to stick with 200 mcg levo. Seems like a lot of wasted levo, to me. Try reducing it and see if it helps how you feel - only not right now, wait until your levels go down again. :)

So sit it out and retest at some point to determine if levels have gone down?
