Natural Dessicated Thyroxine

Hi, I'm new here. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's hypothyroidism in June 2015 and put on Levothyroxine. I changed to NDT which was recommended by a functional medicine practitioner but over the last 18 months I have put on 10lbs and feel lethargic, even though I've increased the NDT dose. I felt great on it at the beginning though, so wondering what has changed. Has anyone else had this problem with NDT?

Thanks in advance!

If you have you current thyroid test results, they may help members to comment. Ideally, TSH, FT4 and FT3.

If you have results for Thyroid Antibodies, Vit D, B12, Folate and Ferritin, that would be a big help too.

Thank you SeasideSusie, I had a blood test yesterday and am awaiting results which I will post when I get them next week. I had to ask for T3 and T4 levels as well as TSH. I know I had the antibodies test when I first was diagnosed. Didn't ask for vit D, B12, Folate or Ferritin so may have to go ask again once I have basic results back.

OK, if you post your results, with reference ranges, when you have them, members will comment.

Do you know if our antibodies were raised? Was it both Thyroid Peroxidase and Thyroglobulin?

Hello, I just got my results - my doctor phoned me. They are as follows:

free T4 (ref range 12-22) - 23.6

TSH (ref range 0.27-4.2) - 0.05

free T3 (ref range 3.1-6.8) - 7.5

Do I need to do a new post so others can comment? Sorry, I am new to the forum and not 100% sure.

Also I am taking 90 mg Metavive daily rather than 'proper' NDT, because I felt so bad on Levothyroxine. When I changed over to Metavive I felt so much better, but increasingly over the past 2 years that I have been taking it, I have put on weight and am more tired. My doctor has now said that the current results show that my TSH is too supressed and I need to cut down on the dose of Metavive I am taking. I started taking my basal temperature yesterday as well - it's low - 34.8 last night and 35.4 this morning.

If the test was via NHS you are very unlikely to get FT3 tested. Sometimes not even FT4

You may need to test this and vitamins privately.
