Hypo symptoms in Men

Hello friends. I've noticed that there are many fellow males in this group suffering from hypothyroidism, so thought I'd share a couple of symptoms, as a 32 year old Male sufferer.

No morning wood / Waking up unrefreshed

Weak erectile strength / No random erections

Diminished libido / Finding my girl a lot less attractive (on a physical level)

No urge to exercise, exercise doesn't make me feel good

Muscle spasms / Missing heartbeats / Eyelid twitching

Slow speech / Train of thought

Flat emotions / No motivation or excitement

Do you have any of those symptoms or any other odd symptoms? How did those improve when on your optimal dose (and at what TSH that was)?

Strength and Sympathy for you . It must be so very devastating regardless at what age especially so young as yourself . You have your whole life ahead of you . Did you have Mono just before your hypothyroidism ? My son had Mono and was diagnosed with Hashi shortly after . Are you on any thyroid meds ? Nutrients would be Very Helpful for you to be on . Vitamin "D"/K2 , a good B-Complex , B12/Folate , Magnesium . I would suggest some good Sea Salt it has many minerals that can be very helpful and energizing too . It's very smart that you journaled your symptoms . Try to see if you can get a Good Endo/Dr that can further treat you with thyroid meds if needed . They should run FT4 , TT4 , FT3 , TSH , TgAb , and vitamin D , B-12/folate , Iron panel with ferritin .

I would very much recommend you read SeasideSusie's Excellent Posts on important Nutrients .

SlowDragon has Excellent Posts on Gluten Free (GF) . Very Helpful .

Be Strong you will get there .

Wishing You Much Success In Your Next Steps .

Hello Malibu, my experience was that my untreated hypothyroidism completely knocked out my libido and impacted significantly on sexual functioning. This all resolved completely once I was on levothyroxine, my libido and sexual functioning returned to previous levels even when other symptoms hadn’t fully cleared up. I think levothyroxine is used to treat impotence in non hypothyroid men, so it can be very effective in restoring sexual functioning. So hang in there and things should improve with treatment

All the other symptoms are very familiar too and they do improve with treatment but it takes time and patience to get the right dose and right meds. Took me six months to start to feel human again. There are some very kind and well informed people on this site who I am sure will give you great advice.

Good luck and hope things improve for you.

Yep, and not just for men...

For the libido and sexual health related issues, you could try taking 1 tablet of zinc Picolinate per day on a few week trial. I use the Solgar brand product which is 22mg per tablet. Usually around £7 for 100 tablets on Amazon: amazon.co.uk/Solgar-Zinc-Pi...

Worthwhile checking the zinc won't cause issues with anything else you are taking. If you take a multivitamin pill that may have some zinc in it. The picolinate form seems to be what some people say to go for.

I meant if alreday taking a multivit pill be careful not to consume too much zinc if you are going to take another zinc supplement. Depending on dosage amount you could maybe have the multivit in the morning and the zinc supplement before bed. Type of thing.

Zinc levels I have read somewhere can be fairly low in men.
