Welcome to our forum and after fifteen years on Eltroxin you obiously don't feel well and I assume you still have clinical symptoms.

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

Thyme is a spice and it is not a thyroid hormone. Without thyroid hormone replacements we would eventually become very, very unwell and die eventually. Thyroid Hormones are required in the mllions of T3 receptor cells in our bodies, heart and brain contain the most..

I think you should look to adding T3 (liothyronine) into a reduced Eltroxin.

You've been on Eltroxin for fifteen years and it hasn't seemed to benefit you, probably due to a doctor not increasing your dose until the TSH was 1 or lower and probably both FT4 and FT3 are too low to benefit your body.

Eltroxin is T4 (levothyroxine) only - it is an inactive hormone and has to convert to T3 (liothyronine) and is the only active thyroid hormone our bodies require in order for us to function normally and have no clinical symptoms.

You need a new blood test:-

The earliest possible, fasting and allow 24 hours gap between last dose of Eltroxin and test and take afterwards. Request:-

TSH, T4, T3, Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies.

Get a print-out of your results and post with the ranges. Ranges are important for members to comment on the results.

You also need B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate as everything has to be 'optimal' not just within a range.

Whatever have you been reading? I can't see any connection between thyme and thyroid hormone. Thyme won't increase the output of your thyroid, so why do you think it would enable you to reduce your Eltroxin? Eltroxin is a thyroid hormone, not a drug.

GG on the net there are lots of links that claim that thyme can cure hashis and heal thyroid diseases!! I think not, I used it many years ago for sinusitis in which it helped clear but for curing diseases no.🌟🌟

Really? I've never read that. As a child, we always has parsley and thyme stuffing in out chicken, but it didn't stop me getting Hashi's.

I've just read thyme can mess up the pituitary and shouldn't be taken by anyone with thyroid probs, quite a few other side effects as well, scary herb !

Wow! I shall have to read up on that. Good job it's not a taste I like! I haven't stuffed a chicken in years.

I agree bantam, its a really potent herb, it was around 20 years ago when I had it as a drink- quite a lot to drink if I remember, it did clear my sinuses for good but boy I thought I was dying in the night, hot, sore throat, throbbing head!! But never ever suffered again- my dad got it for me fresh from the fields, who knows whether that caused my problems? But I do not think I would use it again!!🌟

There are lots of videos and info claiming thyme is excellent for the thyroid, I do not think I would bother, I do not like stuffing that much anyway, ooh I don't like the thought of stuffing a chicken, lol I've never done it!!😕

I agree!! Lots out there😀

Hmmm… don't think I'll bother. lol

The thing is, even if thyme did get rid of the Hashi's, it couldn't repair the damage already done to the thyroid, so one would still need thyroid hormone replacement of one kind or another.
