Fluid retention advice please?

Hi does anyone know if water retention is a symptom relating to Hashimotos? Over the last few days my ankles and my feet have doubled in size and it’s really painful to walk. The swelling goes down a lot if I lay down with my feet raised and it isn’t too bad when I wake up but it comes back really quickly when I’m up and about again. I feel like I’m finally on the right dose of Levo and apart from the swollen feet and ankles I will quite well.

Is this common for people with thyroid issues?

It is a hypo symptom, yes. But, as you say it's only come on in the last few days, could be something to do with the hot weather. Could be you've sweated out all your salt and need to replace it.

Thanks GreyGoose, would Dioralyte work to replace salt? I’ve been managing to stay pretty cool, don’t really sweat that much anymore well at least not like before.

I’ve been in Holland for a few days and I’ve just been told it could be due to the flight. I came back Saturday and I’ve been resting since. When I got up this morning my feet were fine but they’re starting to swell up again.

I never understood just how debilitating this condition could be. 😭

If it were due to the flight, it would have happened on the way out there, as well as on the way back. Was it hot in Holland? I don't associate Holland with heat. I was there a few years ago in August and it poured with rain! lol

I don't sweat much, either, now. But I've still been suffering from dehydration and salt-loss in this hot weather.

I don't know Dioralyte at all, but you could try it. See what happens. I just take half a tsp of sea salt in a glass of orange juice.

Hiya, yes it was really hot, up in the 30s. My feet swelled up on the second day of our trip. I’m not convinced it was the flight either, I’m clutching at straws! I never associated fluid retention with thyroid and wasn’t expecting anyone to confirm that might be the problem but I wanted to rule it out rather than in.

I had some problems with a low heart rate and coughing up blood stained mucus but once I started Levo my heart rate came back into normal range and the coughing stopped. My heart rates dropped a little so I was panicking it was connected.

I’ve taken the dioralyte and I’ve been wearing compression stockings so hopefully it will resolve. Thanks GreyGoose I really appreciate and trust your advice. 💐

greygoose GREAT ADVICE . THANK YOU !!! I was thinking the same thing .With the hot weather lots of people sweat out their electrolytes and are not feeling well Sea Salt would be great advice to take or drink in the water sports bottle if one has . It's advisable to take along water in a bottle with some salt when going out in the heat .

If you're dehydrated, swelling can occur. Sounds counter intuitive, but the body holds on to water when dehydrated. Make sure your electrolytes are balanced. In this heat, I add concentrated electrolytes to drinking water.

Thank you I’m feeling better since taking dioralyte and I will keep taking it if the swelling comes back. 💐
