Good morning all. Long time since I last posted. I'm in a battle to keep hold of my T3 that I have been taking 60 mg of for the last 6 years. Its been suggested that I do the gene D102 test as it might help my case and said to do the test through you guys? Wondering how I go about that and is it a full panel test or just tests for that one gene? Thank you x

It's a separate test, others should be able to point you to somewhere to get it done. The DIO2 polymorphism has little effect and certainly wouldn't lead to you needing 60 mcg L-T3. However, many endocrinologists either aren't aware of this or they pretend not to be. So, if all else fails, if they insist on taking away the L-T3 in spite of your protestations it would be worthwhile having the test and hoping you have the double polymorphism.

Thank you. Do you think this will be enough to help me win my case? X
I believe marigold22 was able to convince them to keep her on T3 having done the DIO2 test and having the gene from just one parent. I've tagged her in case she's able to comment. I've read of others whose doctors took no notice of the test. So I don't think it will automatically convince them. I wish you the best of luck and hope you win your case
The test you refer to is actually called DIO2 (three letters and a number - not a letter and three numbers).
People here will understand but if you are communicating with a doctor or trying to search for information, getting it right will be of considerable help. Getting it wrong gives a doctor an excuse for dismissing you, or you might not find the information you are searching for.
Yes I have heterozygous DIO2 gene variation and on seeing this my endocrinologist possibly increased my T3 up slightly more. He was definitely going to increase it to 15mcg, but instead put up to 20mcg. (Split dose 10mcg at bedtime and waking)
DIO2 test result helped in persuading GP to keep my T3 prescription going after 3 month trial. But I have clear demonstrated radical improvements. Before T3 added couldn't walk for more than 10mins at snails pace. Now can manage 3-4 miles, possibly more!
Couldn't tolerate T3 before correcting low vitamin levels and being absolutely strictly gluten free. I was confirmed as gluten intolerant by endoscopy- subsequent DNA test says probably not coeliac
My CCG still allows T3 prescription if initiated by NHS endocrinologist
Others on here have had positive DIO2 results and/or NHS endocrinologist says they have clinical need yet many CCG still refuse to allow prescription. This is directly against NHS England guidelines
