Wouldn't advise Himalayan salt as a healthy supplement - it is largely equivalent to common table salt with some impurities - some of which have to be removed before consumed as food. Even the USA food agency has rapped sellers of Himalayan sea salt on the knuckles in promoting it as a health supplement. If you need some Magnesium, Zinc etc better to get some pills that you know exactly what/how much is in them for eg you'd have to take a lot of this salt to get 15 mcg of zinc. It is an expensive way to buy sodium chloride to help your adrenal glands.

I believe Himalayan salt is not from the sea but is a crystal mined from rocks. Are you talking about the same salt? I also believe basic table salt contains many additives that I would not like to eat.

Sorry, do not intend to be difficult but just need to clarify these

points for ARi3 and hope someone else can help, as personally, I am rather fond of my adrenal cocktail (which I take at bedtime).

I don't 'take' Himalayan (pink) salt but I do use it in the same way as table salt. I switched some months ago as I like the flavour. But it's very small quantities.

However I do use it in two other ways. I don't drink orange juice a great deal as I have fluctuating blood sugar levels which are just about under control now (thanks to 3 stone weight loss, bit more to go) but on the odd occasion I have a very small glass of orange juice if I fancy something sweet (and I don't eat any refined sugar or anything with artificial sweeteners in) I always put a grind of Himalayan salt in the juice.

I believe I did read somewhere that Dr Peatfield recommends this as part of treatment for adrenal fatigue which I have had, though almost corrected now.

Also I have a protein shake most mornings made with a non dairy milk (the KoKo one) protein powder which is 82% protein, half an avocado, half teaspoon cinnamon and a grind of Himalayan salt. Blitzed together makes a very filling smoothie which isn't high in sugars. Keeps me going until 1pm lunch at work.

Hi Ari 3

I use two different ones, depending on how I feel, or how my bank balance is when I need to order it as one is considerably more expensive, but as far as I can tell they're the same product. I have Coeliac Disease (as well as Hypothyroidism - both auto immune disorders) so have to follow a strictly gluten free diet and with thyroid issues you have to avoid soy / soya products too. It took me quite some time to find protein powders which had neither of these things in and also no sugar or artificial sweeteners. Many people will say at this point 'ah but there's Stevia which is a natural sweetener' Yes, the leaf of the Stevia plant does have natural sweetening properties but I saw a documentary about it a while ago and the way that's it's harvested and treated to make it suitable for food use renders it anything but natural.

Really I prefer to retrain any taste buds which think they need sweet stuff! It can be done.

So back to the protein powder

This is the first one which is £44 per 1 kilo bag. They do a smaller bag but it won't last long if you have one portion each day. I use 30 grams in a shake with half an avocado, grind of salt, half teaspoon cinnamon and about 200ml milk

This is the 2nd one which appears to be the same product but £25.75 per 1 kilo bag

I use a small amount of cream of tartar, small amount of the Himalayan salt and the juice of half an organic orange. I am very thin, so I tend to take small doses of everything. I cannot remember the quantities of the original recipe but you can find it via Google. I think there were several to choose from but basically all the same idea. I take it last thing at night to help with waking at 3am with a racing heart (all to do with adrenals I think ).

Ok. No it's a rock salt from Pakistan region ( not Himalayas) I have some in my kitchen in a salt grinder....I just think you are being kidded about 84 minerals as it is a natural deposit where trace elements are deposited erratically ie not in any set proportion, and some are dangerous. There are lots of other rock salts in the world a lot cheaper -eg British Tidmans; i assume you want limited iodine, and sodium chloride( ignore table salt ref. as get caking agents etc).

I drink a mixture of water, lemon juice, MSM, L Glutamine and salt first thing in the morning water (a couple of hours after my T3). I actually prefer the grey Celtic salt but am currently using the Himalayan pink stuff.
