I would look to increasing your thyroid hormones and, if GP wont, I'd consider sourcing my own and adding to your prescription. I doubt I would souce the above as thyroid hormones are not dangerous - except if we take too much we'd not have good symptoms and we'd reduce. Dealing with hormones is better than some medications when we are desperate to improve our health:-

Excerpt from above link:

Inositol is commonly used orally for treating a disorder called metabolic syndrome and conditions associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), including failure to ovulate, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and high levels of testosterone. It is also used for depression, schizophrenia, and anxiety disorders, but there is limited scientific evidence to support these uses. (I have emboldened the latter).

As Shaws says, it's not going to help with overall metabolism in as direct a way as an increase in thyroid hormone... it probably wouldn't help increase your energy levels .. well I've not noticed a difference!

It does however seem to help with PCOS (my daughter uses it to regulate her cycle without resorting to the pill which makes her feel bloated) and I'm currently trying it out as a blood sugar regulator (diabetic markers) not sure if it's working that well yet to be frank, but I've not noticed any negatives. So, for PCOS, it's pretty good, the jury's out on other things.
