What is Normal...I need Optimal

I went to see endo as I have been suffering from the following: severe insomnia, constipation, blurry eyes, weight gain, fatigue, shakiness and internal tremors. I am hypothyroid and have been for 25 odd years. This is the first time I'm having issues. My levels are tsh(3.8) free t3(1.9) and free t4(.8). My other symptoms are head feels too heavy for neck and crying for no apparent reason ; also tight jaw where it seems like I'm grinding my jaw and dizziness. My endo states that these are not thyroid symptoms and she referred me to a neurologist. I'd just seen a neurologist who did no test, no MRI, just gave me propanolol for my palpitations. I'd like your feedback. I am new to this forum. Hello all. Oh, by the way my endo says my levels are fine, even though I am so sick.

Can you please add the reference ranges for your results, we can't interpret them without ranges as they differ from lab to lab. For example

TSH : 2.5 (0.2-4.2)

thank you SeasideSusie. here are the range. TSH 3.8(.40-4.50), T4 FREE .8(.8-1.8) T3 FREE 1.9(2.3-4.2). These are the lab work from my function medicine dr. The endo that I saw today does not even do T3 FREE.

If your endo thinks those levels are fine, s/he should try living with them. Find another endo quickly. And what has your functional medicine doctor said about them? You are being let down big time here.

Your TSH is far too high, should be around 1, even lower if that is where you feel well, your FT4 is bottom of range and your FT3 is below range. If you are taking levothyroxine they should be nearer the top quarter of the range, again if that is where you feel well.

Your symptoms are likely to be due to undermedication. What dose are you taking, you need an increase immediately.

Also, have you had thyroid antibodies tested? Also, what are your current levels of

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

And are you supplementing for any of them?

Sorry it took this long to respond. Vitamin d 25-OH=25(30-100ng/ml); B12=>2000(200-1100); Folate,Serum=8.3(>5.4) and Ferritin=208(10-232) I am supplementing with 10,000i.u. of vitamin D3 daily and I am getting B12 injections every week as I was also B12 deficient at one point and diagnosed with PA.

If you've not had vitamin D tested you need to get it done. Your symptoms sound like they could possibly be calcium deficiency which is caused by low vitamin D. Propranolol won't help and will only mask the problem. If you've had vitamin levels tested then post them here along with ranges. You must get this sorted out so be persistent, it's your body and your health and giving you propranolol for these symptoms without checking vitamin levels is irresponsible.

thank you Nanaedake. My vitamin D was tested and I am deficient. I have been taking 10,000 iu daily to bring my levels up; was 11, now 25(30-100 ng/ml). So, after seeing my range, you think this is more the vitamin D deficiency than the thyroid?

thank you Reallyfedup 123. I completely agree with you. I posted the reference range in Seaside Susie reply. My optimal level is about 1-1.2, but for some unknown reason the endo is only concern with getting you in the normal range according to the reference range.

Before I was diagnosed one of my symptoms was my head was far too heavy and I thought my neck was going to break with the weight. It was fixed with levo. Jo xx
