Not something you can guess at. HGH is made by the pituitary and progesterone by the adrenals. But, it's possible if your low HGH is due to a pituitary problem. Do you have a diagnosis of hypo? What was your TSH on diagnosis?

Yes I have been hypothyroid for 15 years he has not give me antibody results but my twin has been diagnosed with hashis they lowered my thyroid meds too much, Tsh 3.5 free thyroxin 8.5 they didn’t do t4 t3 this time

So, your TSH was 3.5 on diagnosis? You were lucky to get diagnosed with that. But, I can't tell what your T4 was like because you haven't put the range.

No not on diagnosis my last lot of tests 12 weeks ago they didn’t do t4 or t3 for some reason but for last year t4 bottom of range and t3 near top

OK, but I asked about your TSH on diagnosis. To give me an idea if the pituitary was working well, then. But, if your TSH was 3.5 12 weeks ago, on thyroid hormone replacement, it would seem that your pituitary is working well.

I don't think anyone can answer your question. What you need is thorough testing - with the correct tests. Otherwise, it would just be guessing. Sorry. :)

When I got diagnosed he said I was borderline no idea what the numbers were back then I just took my Levo, I originally went to see if I was still fertile enough to conceive I had no hypothyroid symptoms. How do you know if your pituitary is working by the results,?

Thanks

The TSH would be low, but so would the Frees.

When a doctor say you're 'borderline' hypo, it means nothing, because all they mean is, your TSH is between the top of the range and 10. However, you are hypo when your TSH hits 3 in primary hypo. So, I doubt you were truely 'borderline'.

Ohhh right no my t3 has been steadily climbing for the past 10 years to near the top of range and t4 staying near the bottom

Yes, but you're on thyroid hormone replacement, now. So, it would be really difficult to tell. But, I somehow doubt it. :)

Just looked back at results when first diagnosed Tsh was 8 and T4 16 they never did my T3 for 6 years after diagnosis, don’t know why?!

OK, so it was Central hypo. :)

What does that mean, I have done quite a lot of research but don’t know what that means

Sorry! I type too fast and letters go missing! I should have said 'so it wasn't Central hypo'!!!

Joanneconnor in reply to greygoose

Lol what is that anyway?

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply to Joanneconnor

Central hypo is when the problem is with the pituitary (Secondary hypo) or the hypothalamus (Tertiary hypo) rather than the thyroid itself (Primary hypo).

We have pituitary problems that run in the family , how would I know if I have a problem?

greygoose in reply to Joanneconnor

You would have to have blood tests of things like HGH and ACTH. But, you didn't have a pituitary problem when you were diagnosed because your TSH was 8.

I think no test for progesterone because I have the Mirena hormone coil fitted
