I really would like some advice, I have just been diagnosed with an overactive thyroid symptoms and I have had no symptoms, apart from a while ago feeling quite warm in bed in winter months this year! I was just wondering is it possible to manage in any way rather than take meds? Doc did a telephone consultation and after speaking to a hospital consultation has told me I need 20mg twice a day of Carbimozole and then another blood test in 3 months time. Are there certain foods to avoid with this conditions. I am really concerned about side effects of taking meds, does anyone know of the common ones they have had and how they have dealt with it. I had gone in for a routine blood test after feeling faint and thought it was low iron, so felt pretty gutted with the news! My TSH level is below range at less than 0.01. I am due to have another blood test to check for thyroid antibodies.. is this to check for Graves disease? My mum has both over and is no under - is this genetic?! So many questions I hope someone can help, the doc didn't seem to think I needed to even see a specialist!

Hopefully they will test for Grave's disease. But the problem often is they don't seem to know the difference between Grave's and Hashi's. Sounds as if your mum has Hashi's, so maybe you have, too. It does tend to run in family. But, nothing decisive can be said - not even by an endo! - until you've had those antibody tests. :)

You're very welcome. :) And good luck!

Whatis your pulse doing? Can you take it?A lot of people seem to find being gluten free helps with reducing antibodies and symptoms. It does seem that you have hashis or graves.I am a bit inclined not to accept treatment for things I am not symptomatic of but would want to be sure my heart wasnt racing. Also be aware that people with graves or hashsi can feel a bit too well and possibly a bit elated and maybe unable to recognise symptoms because feeling great.
