Hi my Specialist called me to let me know my TSH level is 4.71 and told me to go back in a month for another test on my TSH level. Have not been on no medication. Just wondering where I’m heading to and I hope it’s not graves.... any comments?

In other countries if TSH is over 3 we'd be diagnosed. In the UK the rules (stupid) is that TSH has to reach 10 before being diagnosed.

You need two other tests and I will give you a link. GP wont do them but you can get a private test if you wish. We have two labs that do home pin-prick tests.

Thanks Shaws😊that is Terrible to have a TSH level reach 10 before being diagnosed. When I got to a 7.76 I was sick. I have been off methamazol for two months already, and still get skip beats from my heart not all the time, and been taking high blood pressure pills for a month and a half already. I weight 160 and trying to lose that weight. Thanks for the information 😊xoxo

I hope you have a good Endocrinologist.

Don't worry too much yet about weight although it is the commonest complaint on the forum.

I think to have hyperthyroidism must be worse than hypothyroid in it's clinical symptoms.

Very true, it is.

Very doubtful that a TSH of over 4 is Grave's. It's hypo.

Hi there sara great to hear you again!! Looks like you are still having problems with your specialist😕 i think you are going to have a hard job getting anything out of her, i was hypo at one stage but still on carbi so it was reduced to bring levels up again, it seems to me your specialist just tests your tsh every month and then its bye bye-cash in hand, test in a month but what is the end result? Nothing! Have you told her your symptons? What does she say? You are getting nowhere fast but nothing happens fast with the thyroid anyway😠 hey im on 2.5mgs every other day for the last 1 week and feel slightly better now...hope i have not spoke too soon.xx

Lol I told her what she was going to do, and she says I’m doing good, and not to think that if I get sick that it’s the Thyroid...she said to go back in a month to find out where I’m at. Well I didn’t find any good Specialist here, and haven’t checked on any that are like 2 hours away from where I live. Well I did but that’s towards the South and they only have two, and the reviews were more shocking than the ones here....there is just an increase of people coming down with graves on another forum I’m in, and they are not as knowledgeable as this forum. Can’t believe how many youth are coming down with this Thyroid problem.... I’m glad to hear from you also, I really need to find out what your Specialist will do with you... I guess they just don’t know either...hopefully yours will do something mines can’t do... I’m thinking if I get close to hyper she might say I need rai or have my Thyroid removed.... she’s never brought it up tho.

Like Greygoose said you are hyPO at the moment, it's such a shame that even in texas USA there are shocking dire specialists too just like over here😕

I had my endo visit 2 weeks ago, at least my levels are now within range but my frees are still very low range and thats probably why im still having problems , so i have now reduced dose, my endo said that i will stay on carbi at reduced doses until 18 monrhs which will be jan 2019 and after that time if it does not behave i will have it out.

Hey it's great you have also joined another forum closer to home, i suspect its early hours where you are now-😊time for sleep!!

Yes I’m going to sleep for a few hours. Thanks a lot sweetie, I’m always appreciate with your help, your a blessing and I thank God for you and have you in my prayers.

Definitely not Graves, Probably Hashimotos (autoimmune thyroiditis). You probably need meds now, but NHS won't treat until your TSH is 10 - about double the top of the range.

Is that why she won’t treat me? Wonder why she doesn’t tell me that. Thanks for information.

They will sometimes treat sooner if antibodies are very high and/or free t4 is under range, but don't hold your breath. If they drink the NHS kool aid, they truly believe you don't need treatment until TSH >10 - you're probably depressed or mentally ill if you think you do need treatment (and that's worth extra money to a GP practice - a dodgy thyroid isn't). I'm a cynic.
