Crumbling teeth

Hi all, my new issue is crumbling teeth. My dentist has just given me a prescription for fluoride 5000ppm as my teeth are starting to crumble. I assume this is down to my thyroid issues. I have also had three small fractures within the last few years yet my bloods keep coming back as fine and I don't understand how as obviously ive got a calcium issue going on. I spoke to the pharmacist who told me that as long as the thyroid issue is stable It shouldn't affect my teeth, bones ect. My hair is still falling out and only when I take viviscal which is pricey does it actually stop falling out. I know there is a problem here and I'm thinking why does my GP keep giving me anti-inflammatory as this will not cure my problem. Any suggestions would be taken seriously.

I do wonder, since the introduction of flouride into toothpaste nearly all toothpaste (and in children's) is that the reason so many are hypo?

OMG I can not believe this, its so crazy. Are they trying to kill me. They know that im Hypothyroid should they have given me this. The pharmacist warned that it was a a higher strength than was usually dispensed and so to make sure that I didn't swallow any.

I doubt it would help your teeth, anyway. I'd give it back to the pharmacy, if I were you, don't just throw it in the dustbin. What you need to do is start taking magnesium and get your vit D tested. Teeth do need good levels of thyroid hormone to be strong, but if that's the problem, it's a bit late now. But, fluoride won't help, I'm pretty sure!

IM taking vit d as my last blood test showed it was low and I have started taking magnesium again too. I have to use it as my teeth are terrible and throb for hours after ive had a hot drink as the tips are very weak and now prone to chipping, using the toothpaste does reduce the pain but after a few hours it wears off.

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies.

Plus very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

low vitamin D is EXTREMELY common.

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting.

If on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, and if on T3 don't take in 12 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

Many of us actually use flouride FREE toothpaste, to avoid all flouride possible

Magnesium is often too low as well, and we need good magnesium levels for vitamin D

Hi

Do you have indigestion often? If yes, get checked for anhydrochloria, forces acid from stomach in throat and mouth, taking antacids makes it worse. Long term wrecks your teeth. A possible side effect of hypothyroidism

Pa

You aren't taking anti-depressants are you?

No, but I do take antipsychotics from time to time.

Don't know if they work the same way, but studies over the last couple of years show that Anti-depressants can cause osteoporosis by interfering (among other things) with serotonin receptors in the bones (and presumably, teeth).
