Confused symptoms v blood results

Hi it's my first post but I've been following for a while now. June 2017 I was diagnosed with Hyper thyroid results were:

TSH 0.06 (0.27-4.2)

FREE T3 7.3 (2.0-4.4)

FREE T4 3.35 (0.93-1.7)

Put on Carbimazole 20mg and blood tests each 2 months. My dosage was adjusted by the Dr.

By Jan 2018 I was told I'd gone Hypo and stopped 15mg Carbimazole my resuts were:

TSH 2.5 (0.27-4.2)

FREE T3 3.9 (2.0-4.4)

FREE T4 0.51(0.93-1.7)

By March I was Hyper again and put back on Carbimazole 10mg

TSH 0.6 (0.27-4.2)

FREE T3 4.4 (2.0-4.4)

FREE T4 2.41(0.93-1.7)

I was violently sick during this time and told to stop taking medication, so my recent test 9 May was medication free my results are:

TSH 0.18 (0.27-4.2)

FREE T3 4.34 (2.0-4.4)

FREE T4 1.57 (0.93-4.2)

I am so confused and don't know what to do, when I was first Hyper I had classic symptoms but now I feel Hypo symptoms along with terrible bloating, cramps, weight gain and general irritability. I have gained 5 kilos, headaches and constant tiredness. I had a Celiac blood test which was negative but I had been gluten-free for a week when the test was done, the Dr knew this but ordered the test anyway so I'm not sure if the result will be correct?

Now I've been gluten free 3 weeks but still am so bloated and uncomfortable in my whole abdomen, it feels like fermentation inside my whole tummy area.

I am taking no medication now but I am so confused and have lost faith in my doctor.

Any help will be much appreciated.

To edit your post, click on the downward facing arrow under the post, and then click on 'edit'.

And, whilst you're at it, can you put in the ranges, please? Results are meaningless without the ranges. And tell us what you're were taking with each set of results. :)

Have you had your antibodies tested? I think you have Hashi's.

Is this another case of someone with Hashi's being wrongly treated ??

Hi Marz. That's exactly what I was thinking, too.

I think that's more likely than Grave's, because the TSH doesn't go that low, and the Frees don't go that high.

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply, I tested positive for Graves last July so I was told. I have not had my antibodies tested, what should I ask for? I am feeling at a dead end not really knowing what's wrong.

If you haven't had your antibodies tested, then you have not tested positive for Grave's. Testing the antibodies is the only way to know if you have Grave's. Ask them for a copy of your labs from last July so that you can see for yourself. You are looking for TRAB or TSI antibodies.

Thank you i will do that.

I have my antibodies test results from last July.

Thyroid Receptor Antibodies 18.5 IU/L

Thyroid Peroxidase Ab 329 u/mL(0-75)

On this base I was told I have Graves, is that correct?

Is it possible I have Hashimotos?

No, it is not correct. You have Hashi's. Unfortunately, doctors don't seem to know the difference!

Really, oh no. I have been on Carbimazole for 10 months although after being sick I stopped medication so now am taking nothing. Where do you suggest I go from here, My Dr advised to go back on Carbimazole which I haven't. Should I find another Dr?

I am feeling better after a 3 day fast, my abdomen has gone back to normal, no bloating and pain. Just staying gluten free and dairy free now and eating only when hungry, small portions. Heart rate is a little high for me, blood pressure good, sleeping okay. I am tempted to manage without seeing a doctor unless I am unwell again.

I'm sorry you've been wrongly treated by a doctor who shouldn't be let anywhere near a thyroid patient! I think, if it were me, my next step would be to write a formal complaint to the practice manager.

You certainly shouldn't go back on the carbi at this point. Your FT3 isn't even over-range in that last test. I think, if I were you, I would wait until you feel unwell, and then find a different doctor. And, if your levels have gone over-range again, insist he tests your Grave's antibodies before agreeing to carbi. But, the odds are, they will have gone down, and you will need thyroid hormone replacement. Impossible to say for certain at the moment. Best to play it by ear. But, never again just take a doctor's word for anything. They can make the most terrifying mistakes!

Thank you so much for sparing the time to help me. I will do as you suggest wait until I feel unwell and find a different doctor. As far as a complaint goes, I don't have the fight in me at the moment and think it will get me more stressed rather than lead to some sort of justice or apology. Such a shame that we cannot trust and believe a qualified doctor when it comes to our health but I'm very grateful that you have steered me in the right direction.

Thanks and I wish you good health!
