I have just posted a link to a paper about Ramadan and thyroid medicines on another thread. Have a look here:

Hi dils.

I think helvella article link explains it very well- not sure what other advice you are looking for.

Obviously if you feel very unwell you do not have to fast- but you will know what you can deal with best.

I plan to take my dose in the evening. Either straight after Iftar- with a glass of water - do prayers - and then eat Iftar after half an hour. Or 2 hours after Iftar (maybe after taraweeh prayers) so suitable time in between Iftar and Sehri.

I will prob take my thyroxine at Iftar and supplements at sehri.

I usually feel far better during ramadhan even with hypo so I hope u feel the same too. (Do try to avoid gluten heavy foods and keep diet as healthy as possible. High protein and good fats is useful as I’m sure you know)

Good luck and ramadhan Mubarak ☺️

If there is a religious reason for fasting, if we need medication we don't need to fast and we are excluded. Also if we are ill fasting isn't required in most religions. I see @Helvella has given you a link.

I would still take your medication but just don't eat food. Do you realise we have a disease which can be fatal if we don't take replacement hormones? If you are in the UK, and are diagnosed as hypothyroid we do not pay for any other prescriptions for any other illnesses we have. Due to hypo being a very serious condition.

Try to take your levothyroxin at night just with water but at least 2 hours after eating, and at least 2 hours before eating.

Oklll thanku so much... 😊

I have occasionally done it for Yom Kippur - we aren't supposed to tell others - but i still take T3 through the day but do not eat at all for the 24/25 hours (it's dusk to dusk). Purim is a dawn to dusk fast, but I'd treat it the same way.

Easier for me. Not being religious, I don't count T3 as food. but still fast for the 24-25 hours (when I do it). I prefer Purim because of Esther.

Midnight should be OK.
