Supplement recommendations?

I have been tested for all vitamins you've recommended except B12 (apparently because my VCM came back below 100 so they couldn't run the test for B12) and they've come back in range except for Vitamin D, I have a slight vitamin D defficiency.

Vitamin D 25-OH : 23, 80 (range 30- 100)

What supplements do you recommend I take for this?

I also have high cholesterol... it runs in my family but for the first time my LDL is high as well. Any suggestions for this also?

Cholesterol: 221

LDL: 150

As i wrote in a previous post, I'm a recently diagnosed hashimoto's and taking Synthroid 25 mcgs at the moment (Next check up i will see about upping the dose since you've mentioned that my dose is too low at the moment)

Thanks for your help!! Really enjoying being a part of this forum. Being a *young person* on here, I really believe the advice offered on here from many of you who are more experienced is truly invaluable and gives me (and i'm sure many others) confidence that everything will be alright!! So many thanks!!

If you check out this link you will see how much the Vit D Council recommends to achieve a certain level.

vitamindcouncil.org/i-teste...

I think your unit of measurement may be ng/ml in which case they recommend a level of 40-60.

Scroll down to "My level is between 20-30 ng/ml" and you will see that to achieve a level of 50 you need 3700iu daily so I would take 4000iu daily which would be the nearest dose available.

Don't forget D3's important cofactors magnesium and Vit K2-mk7 vitamindcouncil.org/about-v...

And when you've reached the recommended level you'll need to find your maintenance dose by trial and error. Retest twice a year to keep within the recommended range.

Yes the measurement is in ng/mL! Thanks very much! I'll have a look on this now!

You don't have a 'slight' vit D deficiency, you have an enormous vit D deficiency! It's well below range. But, I don't know much about vit D, so someone else with advise.

For your cholesterol, one would expect it to be high when you're only taking 25 mcg Synthroid. That isn't even a starter dose. So, your FT3 will be very low. You say it runs in your family, but do you know that Hashi's also runs in families? Could be a connection.

High cholesterol is connected to low T3. Without sufficient T3, the body will not be able to use cholesterol normally, so it mounts up in the blood. But, high cholesterol won't kill you. It doesn't cause heart attacks or strokes. So, I wouldn't worry about it, if I were you. It could come down as your T3 rises. :)

I think camilla_01 is not in the UK and her level of 23.8 is ng/ml not nmol/L. If so she needs a level of 40-60. Hopefully she will clarify.

I realise that. But, under-range is under-range in any language. And she needs advice on how to raise it. :)

Yes of course, I've pointed her in the right direction above :)

Hi Greygoose! Indeed SeasideSusie has given me recommendations on how to raise my levels! Thanks :)

My high cholesterol has been an issue even before the Synthroid (since i've only been taking it for 6 days!) As far as we know, no one else in my immediate family has Hashis! (We've all been tested at this point) But heart disease has been an issue! So it is important for me to bring it down!

My last T3 was 3,46 pg/mL (1,71-3,71) which I believe is on the high end!

I've actually organized my blood work from 2016- present and have seen that my TSH, Abs and cholesterol have progressively all increased... Until now having been given Synthroid. I will need to do a blood test after being on Synthroid for some weeks to compare the differences!

I didn't say high cholesterol was anything to do with Synthroid, I said it was low T3. And, as you have Hashi's, your levels will jump around. So, just because you had a highish FT3 on that test, doesn't mean it's always like that.

There may be high cholesterol and heart attacks in your family, but the heart attacks were not caused by the cholesterol, because cholesterol doesn't do that. I suggest your read this post :

High cholesterol is linked to being hypothyroid and should improve as your dose of thyroid hormones is increased
