One of the common features of hypothyroidism is low stomach acid. (Anywhere between slightly less than most of us to very close to none - it varies.)

Baking soda is alkaline. It will tend to reduce stomach acidity further.

Always sensible to take things well away (two hours or longer) from levothyroxine.

Otherwise, I am not aware of any specific issues.

Why don't you try supplementing with 400 mg magnesium powder? That's what a lot of us who have those symptoms do..and it does help. You can find it in health food shops. You drink it in solution one hour before bed. You take your thyroid meds when you wake. Best of luck!

I use a brand called Natural Calm. You can buy this supplement over the internet or just go into a health food shop or good chemists will probably also sell it. Good luck..

Since Ive been taking a really good probiotic ( Solgar, one a day) all my bloating and gas has disappeared. I also bought milled seeds in Lidl ( £1.15 for a good sized bag) and put a scoop in a smoothie each day. My stomach & digestive system are better than they've been in years.

I don't eat gluten and eat minimal amount of gluten free bread and I've also cut out potatoes but don't know if this has helped until I reintroduce them and see if that causes a change.

Try fennel tea or peppermint tea. For bloating & gas. Yakult drinks are gluten free good probiotic.

I agree with Fennel tea, I've found it amazing to reduce heartburn anddgacid reflux.

How often do you drink the fennel & peppermint tea ...once or twice a day? & what time of day? Bloating has been such a problem (& worse since starting Levo in February) that I just can’t stand it anymore. Tnx so much for this tip!

If you can drink bicarbonate of soda without doing a massive burp within two minutes then you probably have low stomach acid (the acid reacts with the baking soda like the child's science project of a paper mache volcano), so taking by reducing the ask if it's making the problem even worse.

Apple cider vinegar can help, take a spoon in a glass of water with meals. If that's not strong enough you can try Betaine HCL tablets.

If you can't get hold of digestive enzymes in your country try fermented foods, (unpasteurized) yoghurt, kefir, kombucha, miso, sauerkraut, kimchi, kvas, clabbered milk, etc. These can all help.

Also make sure your dose of thyroxine is correct, as digestive problems are a htypothyroid symptom.

I had a quick search around about having ACV in breastfeeding. Sounds like the concern is with the active bacteria.

You could try a pasteurized kind (most vinegars you buy are pasteurized, if they aren't they will advertise it.

Or look into Betaine tablets instead. These work in a similar way to ACV, making the stomach acidic enough for digestion to work properly.
