Just wondered if anyone has had any issues with blood pressure meds interfering with the thyroid gland/hormone. If so, which group of meds can causes issues.

Lisinopril turned my darling hubby into a different person. Also sent his TSH up to 9 and his free testosterone through the floor. Three years of hell with GP trying to get him to take anti depressants which he wouldn't. Pharmacist queried his meds saying they cancelled each other out so hubby looked into side effects and everything he's been going through were known side effects of Lisinopril. He stopped taking them and over the past six months has been returning to his old self 😍 Just sense of smell and taste still not good but he is himself again.

Oh and blood pressure great.

Interesting I’m taking Losartan and had no problem prior to taking this med. I now have hyperthyroid problems which I feel are linked to my BP meds but my gp refuses to accept this. I do have high BP so can’t stop meds unfortunately.

I take lisinopril - branded Zestril rather than a generic - can’t remember why but I didn’t get on with that and was changed back to Zestril which I have had ever since. I know it can give you a cough but I didn’t have any problems with my thyroid - I was hyper and it was nothing to do with my BP and having Graves didn’t affect my BP either.

I hate how GPs always seem to want to offer antidepressants when they are stumped rather than mess around and find out what’s actually caus8ng your symptoms and sort out your body.

My husbands kidney functions declined to the point of having to see a renal specialist after taking Lisinopril. Luckily I started researching Lisinopril before he went to specialist and had his primary care dr. ( we're in US) switch him to another BP med. He's also takes atenolol, but has done the best on that one. The renal specialist was so surprised that his kidney function was better after being off Lisinopril for a month. He said its the favorite med for renal spec. My husband told him he'd never go back on it. My husband is also on Nature Throid and his TSH has been high and T3 low. In my research of Lisinopril I never saw a reference to the problem with Lisinopril lowering the effectiveness of thyroid meds. Thanks Fibrolinda for bringing this up,

I am convinced the beta-blockers I was on didn’t agree with my thyroxine. First. Bisoprolol and then Nebivolol. At the moment am just relying on a calcium channel blocker.

Yes I have heard some beta blockers can interfere but I haven’t managed to find any info on angiotensin I receptors antagonists (Losartan) affecting the thyroid function.

Pop in Losartan and thyroid and a few bits come up on the Internet

Found this question interesting

I am on Ramprol and Bisaprol full strength have instemic heart disease caused l feel by not being medicated for Hashimoto Thyroditus for at least 10 years they knew l did not !

On Thyroid S after years on levo and not converting properly to good t3 you will find now nhs will only check for tsh numbers and not t4 and free t3 unless Endo specifically asks ( have now stopped going to mine)

Have found if l wait at least 2 hrs on empty stomach after taking NDT to take the plethora of tablets for various chronic conditions my bp is good with no side effects from these meds

Felodipine makes me crash, unless I take it several hours after Levo. Before that, I was on uncoated Nifedipine, which was a weird decision by the hospital (a European centre of excellence) and counter to NICE guidelines.

I've not come across any official interaction data for Lisinopril and Levo. I'm on Ramipril, which I read is more effective taken in the evening (at least to begin with), so that's when I take it.

The beta blocker Atenolol was another I learnt to take well after Levo.
