Wellsprings bio identical oestrogen/progesterone cream

Having recently been prescribed Vagifem for vaginal atrophy/urinary tract infections etc a friend told me she had been looking at biomidentical hormone cream from Wellsprings but I’m a bit apprehensive about ordering it without guidance as when she contacted them they more or less just said your choice whether you use only oestrogen cream or combined oestrogen/ progesterone cream. Surely this is a bit dangerous without guidance? We are both 67 years of age and GP has said only thing available at our age is Vagifem. Are there alternative therapists who provide bio identical hormone therapy? Live in Northern Ireland so if anyone knows of someone please let me know as I would rather have a bit of support if using this.

Has anyone tried the serenity creams from Wellsprings and how did they fare

I have not used Wellsprings, but there are some comments here (scroll down to see what "353535") says about it:

Do you still suffer from typically menopausal problems such as hot flushes?

Thank you Anna

I used it for a while. It made my breasts enlarge and become tender and I gained weight. I felt like an over-stuffed sausage.

I think i would be abit wary of using this-anything hormonal is not good without medical monitoring. Fortunata's reply is a bit concerning😕

It's plant based bioidentical hormone and I have been using it for over two years after reading about it on here. It took a few weeks but hot flushes and sweats reduced by 90% so I think it's brilliant. I use the serenity cream.

I have used progesterone-only transdermal cream on & off over the years. There are several makes.Wellspring is one brand.

I am oestrogen dominant(still got big fibroids despite being 67!)The theory is that if you use large amounts, you can balance out your hormones & overcome oestrogen dominance. It didn't work for me.I get "oestrogen rebound"(everything gets worse)

Despite oestrogen dominance & progesterone cream,my vaginal atrophy never improved.

I can't use local oestrogen cream. It does migrate despite what GPs tell you.

If you are oestrogen deficient, then the combo will help menopausal symptoms, but you need to test your hormone profile.

There are clinics specialising in this but they are really expensive. There is one in London.I read about the author Janette Winterson being a client.

Vagifem is bioidentical (but obviously estradiol only). Excellent for vaginal atrophy. For some reason, Many doctors seem to think that the only reason for taking progesterone is to stop uterine cancer when taking oestrogen. That, of course, is rubbish! Nevertheless, you don't want any so-called progesterone that the NHS provides as it is not real progesterone and is quite a nasty substance. So, you can try the OTC creams, like Wellsprings. I found that they weren't nearly strong enough, but many people do well on them. Or you can go private and get bioidentical HRT - expensive! And you'll need to travel to the South est if you are not there already. I think Bedford is about the furthest North that there is a decent bioidentical hormone practitioner. London is your best bet.

Bioidentical creams will work for some but at some point might stop working and for others they will not work at all. There are problems with dosing, skin condition and other issues as with any other hormone replacement intervention. You certainly want to monitor and establish a baseline and a hormone specialist is really your best bet. I go to London to the private hormone clinic for BHRT and though I started on creams (compounded individual prescription) had to switch to lozenges when the creams stopped delivering. Lozenges are brilliant and feel a lot better on them with hot sweats a distant memory now. However, I was still given Vagifem for vaginal dryness and atrophy which has not quite cleared the problem though I might give it another go with better consistency of usage as it was not quite a priority with menopause in full blast. It all costs but BHRT is worth it for me every penny.

In another hormonal group on FB where I am a member a lady mentioned a laser treatment called Monalisa vaginal rejuvenation she had in the USA which addresses specifically the dryness and atrophy and it is apparently available here as well though privately of course. We are awaiting her updates with great interest but first tentative results were VERY encouraging!
