I thought the following might be informative - this is an excerpt:-

Eating lentils regularly could prevent the need for several medications: They nourish blood vessels and improve blood flow, pressure, circulation.

But on AIP REGIME I thought I had to avoid lentils & chickpeas as inflammatory? Boy how I miss my homemade hummus & dhal - please enlighten me !

Do you know this website? Natural News? It tends to be a bit all or nothing, no time for the grey areas. A bit sensationalist, as well. I used to subscribe to them, but got sick of all the shouting and banner-waving. Take all information with a pinch of salt (especially in the lentils!) and do what you know works best for you. :)

Research has also shown the evidence:-

In this it lists quite a number of foods which can help:

I didn't realise that it could also include chickpeas. Over the last few months my bp has been dangerously high. I am on bp medication but at best this has only helped but not stopped the issue.

I started reading about what I could do naturally to help. I rarely add salt or have salty products due to kidney issues anyway.

On investigation it seemed that may be I needed nuts or pulses in my diet.

I bought a lot of raw unsalted nuts of various kinds. I also bought unsalted dried chickpeas.

I love the Indian snacks of this type but they are just too loaded with salt.

Anyway I often make a snack of some dried chickpeas with some flavorings. I add garlic pepper, turmeric, and sometimes some chilli.

A few days back I felt really dizzy. When I finally got around to checking my bp it was really low for me.

The only thing I can think has had an effect is the regular consumption of the spiced dried chickpeas.

So I might have found a way to lower my bp naturally.

I hope so and it is amazing that some foods can actually improve our conditions.

I wouldn't like to have high blood pressure but I do know many suffer until they are able to get some control.

I had high BP which was 140/90 and four months ago went vegan and now at 115/63 which doctor said was very good. Also stopped all my stomach issues. Lentils and beans are a staple.

That's really good how your changed diet has worked. You must be really happy.

Happy with those results yes but if only I could find a cure for hypothyroidism.

If you found a cure for hypothyroidism, you'd be a wealthy man I am sure :)

Have your had your Free T4 and Free T3 levels tested? NHS rarely test these two which give more information, i.e. T4 is inactive and has to convert to T3 which is the only active hormone and we may not do so effectively.

I eat more vegetables now than I ever have in my life and have started to crave green stuffs if I have not included any that day.

I haven't gone vegan or even totally veggie but now eat much less meat. I do have fish several times a week and dairy, but have reduced how much cows milk I drink.

If in a family situation it's easier to eat a heavy meat meal I feel below par the next day.

I think listening to our body is a good thing. I don't like a heavy meal in the evening either.
