Thyroid ultrasound , please help me decipher

Hello all, I can't get in to see the endo until May, can anyone give me any specifics regarding my thyroid ultrasound findings? My GP isn't well informed regarding this issue, and I could really use some advice on how this looks. Any insight is appreciated. Thank You!

The right lobe of the thyroid measures 7.9 x 2.1 x 2.3 and the left lobe of the thyroid measures 7.3 x 1.8 x 2.3 cm in diameter. The isthmus measures 9 mm in thickness. Echogenic nodular area in the left lobe measures 0.9 x 0.8 cm , can be representative of a functioning nodule. Further evaluation with nuclear imaging recommended. Impression nodular goiter.

Push your GP to get nuclear imaging done so that you have the results BEFORE seeing the endocrinologist

See from your other post you have widely varying TSH

This could be temporary thyroiditis after pregnancy

Or Hashimoto's

btf-thyroid.org/information...

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies. Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12.

Essential to test thyroid antibodies, FT3 and FT4 plus vitamins

Insist GP tests antibodies

Private tests are available if you can't get GP to agree. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

If antibodies are high this is Hashimoto's, (also known by medics here in UK more commonly as autoimmune thyroid disease).

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's

Your endo should explain this!! Gp will not understand it-i had a 2nd ultrasound scan last month and had it done by a consultant thyroid sonographer and he explained everything there and then, mine was alot luke yours-in keeping with hashimotos- he even let me see the screen and explained everything to me-much more better than a normal sonographer who cant interprit results, when i had my 1st scan i had to wait for endo to comment on them as gp could not understand result. I did google mine before hand though and frightened the life out of me at the time-not recommended😨😨

YES! Doctor Google has me frightened! I wish I could stop googling, but I find myself constantly searching for answers. I have an endo appointment in another month and a half and I don't know how I can wait that long 😕was your thyroid gland as swollen as Mine?

Please dont worry as if it was anything to worry over you would have been told when endo had report-i waited a month and half for my endo to very briefly discuss it. My thyroid was slightly enlarged and it does increase on a hashi flare up-i get a horrid tight throat and neck when it is swollen, i too have well defined nodules of only 5mm and a thickining of the isthmus of 4mm but chronic damage done by hashis- there were lots of other notes but have not got them too hand-im sure if you scroll through all my posts you will find my scan results and also the pist where i scared myself too death by doing doctor google, you really do not need to worry-resist the urge to google and dont worry and spoil your precious time on medical jargon as all will be well-my endo discussed it fir around 2mins and moved on!! 2nd scan was great as i could see my thyroid and on seeing it and the messy damage-its no wonder we feel dire at times. Only natural to worry but no need-but if you cant stop worrying just ring your endo and see if he will put your mind at rest-i l know how you feel as you think you have been left in limbo. All will be well.xx
