I would love to find out if those with hashimotos have this condition it seems that most I know do!! which I believe is due to being left undiagnosed for many years causing the whole digestive process to slow down causing this damage

Have you had an endoscopy to prove you have a hiatus hernia? Or has your doctor just diagnosed you with this on the basis of symptoms?

I have no proof of this, but in my opinion it is more likely to be low stomach acid which results (eventually) in hiatus hernia, although having Hashi's probably increases the risk of low stomach acid.

If you want help with hiatus hernia the best site to read is Chris Kresser's site. Note that he refers to "hiatal hernia" (the US name) rather than "hiatus hernia" (the UK name).

If you do a web search for "chris kresser hiatal hernia" you'll find lots of advice.

I actually have hiatus hernia, but I have secondary hypothyroidism. Basically the tumor on my pituitary causes my hypothyroidism. However I do have autoimmune dissorders, so I wonder if it mainly has to do with the autoimmune issues.

I believed that I had one.

Used to get a knotty feeling just under my bust.

Went for a scan and all they could find was an insignificant lipoma. I think it was the extra weight I was carrying that sat uncomfortably that made me believe I had one.

Many docs seem to prefer to take the 'if I don't know about it, it can't exist' attitude. Maybe print the paper and place it under your doctors nose?

Not sure which link you mean - I tried them and they all worked! Or did I miss testing one?

Likely low acid due to being under medicated and/or low vitamins

Lots of posts on here about how to improve with Apple cider vinegar or Betaine HCL

See from previous posts you have had T3 stopped (or reduced?)

Low stomach acid and low T3 are probably linked

Have you retested thyroid and vitamins recently

Are you on gluten free diet?

I also have digestive problems a few years ago got gastritis then recently My problems returned. I got a endoscope and a barium and was told I have hierus hernia, gastritis and dysmotility of the oesophagus. Sore throat when talking, cough, food getting stuck and acid. There was no discussion about coping other than just take medication. I looked It up and was suprised At the amount of information connecting it with the thyroid, no mention of that from specialist of course,. I am becoming so cynical with the way thing work!

I was also told I had fibro when I was first diagnosed with a thyroid problem and with that diagnosis all my symptoms which I did complain about, could, of course, only be caused by the fibro, so nothing could be done.

I haven’t yet work out how to deal with my stomach issues but I am certainly not taking those ppi’s.

bossbird you have my sympathy. I became very weak due to not absorbing nutrients as I couldn't keep food down. What has really helped is slippery elm taken 3 times daily, also squirt Dr Shade's Bitters no. 9 on my lunch where possible and dinner.

Undiagnosed hypo for 17 years and reckon I'm stuck with this hiatal hernia and acid reflux for life. Obviously PPIs were refused.
