Hi I have purchased (out of desperation really) a combination tablet by Bitron in Bulgaria and just wondered if anyone had tried it before I start taking it?

I had been about to refer you to the product on the Abdi Ibrahim website. But it is not listed!

The link to all their thyroid products is:

abdiibrahim.com.tr/en/produ...

I do not know if this is because it has been withdrawn or simply an omission.

Yes, seems to be equivalent to Novothyral(100mcg levo.T4+20mcg Lio.T3) by Merk. and is to be found without prescription in pharmacies (where I live).

Thanks Adin. So it's safe to take then?

There is no reason to assume medications made/licenced in other European country other than the UK are unsafe.

All 1st world countries (and I'd go as far as all countries) must adhere to high quality and pharmaceutical standards all over the world.

Otherwise they'd be killing/making sick their own citizens.

Even so, some factories have been inspected and found wanting. For example, some Wockhardt facilities in India were inspected by the UK's MHRA and received a "not good enough" rating. Also, let us not miss the fact that Mercury Pharma are having to get every batch of liothyronine tested by the MHRA before being released to market.

Hi helvella,Can you tell me why each one has to be tested and is this the reason for mercury pharma t3 being so hard to get hold of ?

As far as I know, it was because their bath-to-batch variatino was too great.

I can't see why that would explain any supply issues - it is not as if they have admitted any issues at the Mercury Pharma end - if you contact them they usually say there is no problem. (That is, as reported by others here.)

I don't know you medical condition but I think it's safe enough because it's made by one of the biggest company in Germany(Merck-Serono). I used novothyral but now I switched to multidose T3 and one T4 dose in the morning.

Thank you

Novothyral - that is.

Bitiron is/was a product from Abdi Ibrahim in Turkey.

Thanks. I wasn't assuming or making any kind of slur on medications from elsewhere I was just asking.

No, I didn't think you did.

I only wanted to ease your worries with regards to medication purchased from another EU country.

I can assure you it safe and the dose is as stated on the box.

Hi

Can I ask you you the Bulgarian name and where you bought it please?

Hi Michelle. There are three types you can purchase. Tiromel, Bitron and Dithyron. They are T4 50mcg and 12.5 liothyronine mix. They are helping me better than Levo on it's own ever did and as a bonus they are cheap as chips. The website is called <a website>. It is a website for bodybuilders I have been told who use T3 to lose body fat but of course it is a thyroid medication. I always pay via PayPal to protect my money.

Tiromel is NOT a mix - it is only T3 / liothyronine.

My GP told me that I can buy T3 legally without prescription, as it isn't a restricted class A, B or C drug. Is this not the case?

I buy it without a script from abroad though.

You can buy any medicine that is not a Controlled Drug from abroad without a prescription provided it is for your own use or for members of your household.

Our guideline #24 exists because we cannot possibly take responsibility for vendors around the world. If we allow specific vendors to be named and linked, we are effectively endorsing them as reputable suppliers. It could also look as if we were promoting them. Further, it would be against the terms and conditions of HealthUnlocked. None of that means it is illegal for you to buy such products.

In my book, your GP shouldn't be suggesting or endorsing you purchasing from abroad but should be supporting you in getting a UK prescription. Failing that, your GP might be able to supply a private prescription for you to use at a recognised pharmacy here or abroad.

Thanks for the info, I had previously asked my GP the qustion as I was concerned my T3 could be confiscated, but your answer is clearer.

I have been refused an NHS prescription by 2 GPs (different CCGS) and an Endo. The same 2 GPs refused point blank to give me a private prescription to allow me to safely secure my own T3 from a reputable source. 2 GPs said 'buy it online.'

My local MP has offered to speak to West Cheshire CCG on my behalf. I'll report back if it gets anywhere.

Please see this post from Lyn Mynott (CEO of Thyroid UK), as your story of being told to buy your T3 online may be helpful in fighting this cause healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
