Please will you help me with blood tests results

Hi all you lovely people, Peapod's daughter here. Long time no post but always checking in on here. Many a thought and a prayer gets sent out to you all. It's a very special place and a privilege to be member of. I'm putting this on for mum who's just got these bloods back from docs. Less said about the 'docs' the better. After invaluable help from you all on here two years ago, mum is on T3 only (obviously not funded by NHS). However, after an awful lot of stress this last 12 months, mum has gained weight, not sleeping well and feeling anxious and low. Your expertise and kindness to comment on these results would be deeply appreciated. I've learned so much from you all over the years and also done my research but I can't hold a candle to the depth of knowledge of you fabulous people. Many thanks x

OMG SeasideSusie, I added them as 'attach photo'. The curly worm thing happened but don't know where they've gone! Obviously it's that long since I posted I've done it wrong ... help!

Can you type them in? I'm not good with adding a photo unless it's on a normal PC.

It's a full A4 sheet so would take ages. I can't understand where it's gone! I've posted bloods results once before but that was 2 years ago and I'm wondering if the process on here has changed. Thanks for that SeasideSusie, I'll try and figure out what I've 'not done' lol!

Thyroid antibodies

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

Iron Panel and MCV MCHC Haemoglobin if done

Peapod38,

Click on the v down arrow underneath your opening post and select Edit. You can scroll down and click on Add Photo to try and load the image again and then submit via Edit response.

Clutter and SS, thanks for this I've just done what you said twice but no joy. There doesn't seem to be any problems at my end. I'll keep trying and do it 'longhand' if not. Ggrrr ...

Clutter and SeasideSusie please can you advise whether it's ok to increase mum's T3 to 50 mcg from 37.5 mcg?

Peapod38,

I would suggest increasing by 6.25mg to 43.75mcg for a week or two before increasing to 50mcg.

Will do, many thanks for that Clutter.

Had to change format from PDF to Jpeg. Sorry because PDF is much clearer but won't open on here ... thank you SeasideSusie and Clutter

Mum is undermedicated, her TSH is far too high and T3 too low considering she is taking T3 only.

Does Mum take any supplements?

Ferritin is too low at 51, it needs to be at least 70 for thyroid hormone to work and half way through range is recommended. If Mum eats liver once a week (max 200g) that will help raise Ferritin level.

B12 is on the low side, over 500 is better and top of range is best.

Folate is too low, it needs to be at least half way through the range.

Vit D is fine, recommended is 100-150nmol/L.

Cholesterol should improve when adequately dosed thyroid-wise.

Thanks so much SeasideSusie. Yes mum does take a good quality range of supplements but when she's felt so awful and stomach playing up, has not been as consistent. She's taking 37.5 mcg of T3 (1 and a half of 25 mcg tablets). I felt that she is undermedicated but you guys 'know' it. It's so much appreciated.

Your Mum's HBA1C is on the cusp of being abnormal, is your mum diabetic? I also noticed her glomerular filtration rate is below normal (kidney function). These two things can make your mum feel horrible. If she is diabetic is she checking her glucose? T3 is the active hormone and therefore can raise glucose levels. Maybe your mum would be better taking a mix of t4 and t3?

Thanks for the reply Kalicocat. No, mum isn't diabetic, well, not as far as we know. This is something to look into Kalicocat. What is HBA1C a marker for? Mum had to stop Levo as it made her ill, that's why she's on T3 only. Appreciate you pointing that out thank you.

Peapod, HBA1C is your mom's average blood sugar over the last 3 months. And it is right at the top. Meaning that she could already be diabetic. She needs to watch her carbohydrate intake. I would suggest that your mom get a glucometer to start testing her blood sugar to see where it is sitting. I bet that it is high, especially after meals. Her GFR is low as well, meaning her kidneys are not working as well as they should and that could also be related to her high blood sugars. T3 may not be helping her glucose stay in the normal range.
