Adding T3

Hi everyone,

I have been on 50mg Levo for 7 weeks and recently had my DI02 test back which shows I have decreased ability to convert T4 to T3

(DI02 (T92A) rs225014 Heterozygous variant genotype TA)

Because of this I would like to add some T3, however I am very nervous so would like to start low..could adding 1/4 of a 5mg tablet be ok?

My recent thyroid results from the 9th March are as follows:

FREE THYROXINE 19 (pmol/L 12.00 - 22.00)

FREE T3 4.25 (pmol/L 3.10 - 6.80)

Thank you in advance

The whole 5mcg tablet would be fine. I assume you mean micrograms...

Thank you, yes I mean micrograms :)

Good, because 5 milligrams would be a lot to start with, lol.

5 micrograms is a very small amount :)

Hi R120

Sounds fine to me, I'm on a prescribed dose of 30 mcg split into 10 mcg three times a day. Wouldn't you like though, given your condition, to get an NHS endo to monitor you so you have the other checks run:- vitamins, DEXA scan, heart etc?

My endo gets my (somewhat reluctant surgery) to check my heart and my bones, luckily, since I do have osteopoenia.

Also, it's worth checking when to take the T3, I find it quite tricky timing it far enough away in time from the things that interfere with it, iron especially.
