Metavive Porcine/Bovine Thyroid Supplement

Can anyone tell me if this “supplement” is actually the same as NDT or is it different?

Struggling to find information on Matavive contents at T4/T3 level detail and if T1, T2 and Calcitonin is also included. Any help would be appreciated.

It describes like NDT but I’m struggling to comprehend how it’s available OTC in th UK and how anyone knows the hormone content of it.

EDIT:::: it contains the following thyroid hormone (confirmed by manufacturer):

Metavive I (porcine) per 25ug there is 2.6ug T3 and 8.7ug T4

Metavive III (bovine) per 32.5ug there is 2.25ug T3 and 16.5ug T4

Pamela0106,

You won't find any information on how much, if any, active T4 and T3 is in Metavive. If the company declared it contained x amount of T4 and T3 they would be unable to sell it as a food supplement OTC and would have to apply for a pharmaceutical licence.

As I thought. Thank you for confirming I wasn’t going mad! X

from what I gather Pamela its ingredients are much the same and it is produced in a way that should preserve its hormone content but it is unregulated which mean they cannot state how much hormone is i it or garuntee that it is a perfectly consistant amount. Some people seem to be doing well on it I gather.

Hi

Actually the info is available but you have to get it thro a few select specialist/s who have been given it having met the co director.

Yes I understand it’s doing well for people and the co is trying to stay under the radar.

If you’re on a larger dose it is expensive that said I understand you need less as it’s stronger than ndt. I have been given the dosage material and thought I’ll read that when I have a spare 2 hours!!

Nothing to stop people starting off with v small dosages and v small increases tho if that’s what they prefer. It is 100 % natural.

Hope that helps.

Good luck.

Hi Sir , I use Metavive and Adrenavive , can you PM me the dosage it will be great help.

Would appreciate if you can PM me ?

Thanks

I’ve managed to lay my hands on the content of each dosage including T3 and T4 measures. It’s good to have but I worry for people who take it who already have a thyroid disorder and are on meds already. Now I know for sure it does contain hormone it must be affecting those people who don’t know and I assume they’ll be experimenting a lot to find the right dose. I think I will still go LT4/LT3. Lol x

I agree with the others. It's worked for me. Start low and go slow!

I am on NDT and it costs so much to buy then import it, is this stuff as good? The royal mail charge me £8 every import and that also bumps up the whole price. i didnt even know there was something else about.

Its improved my numbers so thumbs up from me.

More important to me than numbers is how you feel on it... Has it improved your well being? Synthetic hormone improves the numbers circulating in the blood but is still worthless because the body does not use it... Hence "normal labs" in a hypo state.

Reply

Well said, it has to some degree and I say some degree because my thyroid doctor didn’t help with dosing other than to say “keep increasing until you feel better”.

As I result I took too much and ended up with above range FT4 and RT3 levels.

Reply

With your numbers above range did you FEEL hyper as well?

Reply

I felt very, very tired and sometimes experienced palpitations.

Reply

Are you better now ?

Reply

I don’t feel as tired but I still have lots of symptoms

Reply

Did you lower your dose because of the high lab result? Possibly you lowered too much? Although you did say you were still tired with the high labs... It may not be a good product... I do know the powers that be are messing with NDT it seems from every source...

Reply

I feel less tired after lowering Metavive. I was clearly taking too much. On a higher dose I felt worse.

There are so many factors involved in normal thyroid hormone physiology. In fact medical studies have identified over 20 causes and actual low thyroid hormone production is just one. It’s only in the latter that replacing it with T4/T3 actually helps significantly.

So not everybody will find a cure of all or most symptoms simply by taking thyroid hormone. If you have Hashimoto’s that’s particularly the case. You’ll need to find your route cause.

I bought some low dose 25mcg but it’s in fridge till I can work out how to phase it in. Very good customer service but had to pay extra £17 (duty and Royal Mail £8 handling fee.) so fed up of the lengths we have to go to try to feel well-

Reply

They cannot say it contains any active hormone as, if it did, it would be prescription only. It seems to work for some people, but Thai NDT is a lot cheaper (but has more excipients/fillers).

I have the contents now of T3 and T4 for Metavive. Good to know. I’d be very wary of taking anything without knowing it’s dosage levels x

Are the contents comparable to RX brands?

Hi Pamela0106

I have tried Metavive in the past but have gone back to Nutri Thyroid. I'm thinking of maybe changing my treatment. Could you PM me with the T3 & T4 contents.

Much appreciated

Paula

That's greats Pamela, thanks for that 🙂

I think there is something wrong with the units! :-)

Reply

What do you mean? I realise it might not be ideal ratios of T4:T3 but I thought the way I wrote it was fairly straight forward? Am I being thick??

Reply

I think that 25ug should have been 25 milligrams. But left it to you as I have not got anything to check against. :-)

(Similarly for 32.5ug.)

I've been on Metavive iv for about 2 months and have recently reduced from 2 to 1capsule per day as had pounding heart! Thyroid blood test (NHS) next month so will see how the levels compare to when I was taking Nature-throid.

Reply

May I ask how much nature thyroid you took? Trying to figure out how many I would need if I did switch 🙂 seems to be similar thing to thyro gold from what I've read. As it gets harder to pay for NDT it may turn out to be an easier option... If it works 🙂 and if it didn't turn out to be too costly to afford of course.

Reply

Hi, I was taking 2 1/2 grains of Nature-Throid and the Naturopath started me on 2 capsules of Metavive IV. So I took that thru the 1st container and now only taking 1 having just started the 2nd batch.

Hi topaz1 - How do you feel on it? You are taking the bovine version do you feel it is as effective as porcine? I have read that porcine thyroid hormone is a closer match to human.

Reply

Hi mrmoo, yes I'm taking the bovine version and it doesnt seem to make any difference taking 1 or 2 capsules! Moving on to Nutri-Thyroid next.

Reply

Why not try the porcine version?

Reply

I might do that if there is no improvement taking Nutri-Thyroid.

Hi I’ve spoken to the company where I purchased this- natural choices.

They said they take the parts they need and freeze- there is no chemical interference etc so what ever hormone is naturally in there remains. They don’t test for how much etc as he said this would be more of a legal matter.

I take the metavive and adrenavive but only a few weeks on each so early days yet

Hi Pamela

Dr P. has suggested this uk source to his patients as an alternative to other NDT which if you know of his experience and success should say enough. The lack of data is due to politics as others have mentioned.

I have taken this and found to it to be equal to other NDT products. I now take one with two T3.

Yep. I was more asking because someone else in my facebook group raised it and I wanted to help her. I was always wary of taking anything when the levels are u known especially if you already take T4 or T3 (or NDT) and have euthyroid results.

Now I know it does contain hormone and what the levels are per dose so I feel much more armed to help the group xx

I’ve had a lot of PM’s asking me for the content I’ve found on Metavive.

If you want it please send me your e-mail addresses and I will send it to you. It is a picture I have of a leaflet which contains a the T4/T3 content and unfortunately I cannot post the pic on here or send via PM as there’s no option to do so via PM.
