Please can someone advise on my latest results. I’m on 100 mcg of Levothyroxine but really don’t feel any better than the day I started taking it, which is just over a year ago now. Please can you tell me where to go from here as I’m still struggling daily with several symptoms. Thank you.

TSH 0.035 ( 0.3-4.2)

FT4 21.5 (12-22)

FT3 5.03 (3.1-6.8)

Folate 3.75 (2.91-50.00)

Ferritin 69.4 (13.00-150.00)

Vitamin B12 63.700 (25.10-165.00)

Vitamin D(25OH) 57.3 (50.00-200.00)

I can see I am just within range of a couple of results, if I need to supplement can you please advise how much and if any co factors are also needed.

Many thanks.

Hi there, your thyroid results look pretty good. So I would think the areas that need help are the B12, ferritin, folate and VitD. Do you take any supplements at the moment? I personally found Thorne research VitD with K2 liquid to be a very good supplement. I get B12 injections, but have used the Better You spray to top up my levels. As I haven’t needed ferritin or folate supplemented I can’t recommend anything personally. I am sure there are others on here who will be able to suggest supplements for these.

Best wishes

Thanks MariLiz,

No, I don’t take any supplements . Not too sure about how much or even if I need any as all my results are ‘in range’.

What I can’t understand is why I still feel so awful every day .

Have you ever researched rT3? With an fT4 as high as yours, it is certainly a possibility that you have an abundance of rT3. If you give your body more levo than it wants, it converts it to a higher proportion of rT3. rT3 is thought to slow metabolism all in its own right. So that is a possible reason why you are experiencing symptoms of hypothyroidism with such a decent level of fT3.

When we are hypothyroid we need our vitamins to be near the top of the range not just in range. I found this to be especially true for Vit B12 and VitD. We are unable to use the thyroid meds we are given without these nutrients.

MariLiz, that’s great as I wasn’t sure where in the range I should be aiming for. What with my brain fog issues on a daily basis I’m struggling to get an understanding. Thanks, will get some vitamins ASAP.

Really appreciate your help and advice xx

Hi Milpol, I'm still on a learning curve with all this thyroid stuff but with that high a fT4 I would expect your fT3 to be a bit higher. T4 converts to both T3 and rT3, so I'm wondering if you've perhaps got a bit much rT3 in your body?? It might be worth trying reducing your thyroxine and taking some T3 too. Are you supplementing with anything to help the T4 to T3 conversion? There is some information in this link: restartmed.com/natural-thyr...

Many thanks ShinyB for responding.

I was thinking exactly the same thing about reducing my Levothyroxine and adding some T3. How long should I wait after reducing Levothyroxine before I start taking some T3 do you think?

I’m not taking any supplements as not sure my results indicate I should.

Will read the link you sent when I get home. Thanks so much for your advice x

If you want to cut your 100mcg dose of levo in half you can go without taking it at all for 7 days, then resume at a 50mcg dose. You can introduce T3 right away. The recommendation is to introduce it slowly, but some have no trouble doing a straight dose swap. Here is a helpful chart regarding equivalents. You will see differing opinions on how much T3 is equal to T4, but I think this chart is pretty realistic.

ShinyB just did something very similar to this.

Many thanksKell-E, that’s so kind of you. I have just got in so will look at the link. You have given me some hope that with a little T3 in the mix, I might start to feel a bit better. Xx
