Encouragement for those who suffer hairloss

I just wanted to offer my experience of hair loss with severe primary hypothyroidism. I was so upset back in November when I was diagnosed. My hair had fallen out all along my hairline but following the advice of my endocrinologist I bore with my dosage of 125mcg Levothyroxine (first thing in morning an hour before breakfast and 4 hours before any calcium) took selenium, zinc, biotin, Vit D, iron supplements, have gone gluten free, took magnesium and use Plantur 49 caffeine shampoo. My hair IS growing back and I just wanted to share my experience to anyone going through this distressing symptom.

Great news

Remember ....If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

And finally - the one thing that is hideous... given up caffeine! Also have cut down aerobic exercise as I was busting it in the spin class a bit too much - swimming now more often.

Thanks for the nice positive post and I do know many members are distressed about losing quite a lot of hair.

It will give encouragement and your hair looks great. :)

I woul also add b vitamins, fish oil and coconut oil. (also apply coconut oil topically, massage in and leave on the scalp for as long as possible before shampooing off) Not sure about plantur 39 shampoo, have you seen the list of ingredients? (lots of chemicals) would better off putting coffee and camelia extract into the coconut oil and using topically, after all shampoo is only applied to the hair and rinsed off again and better to use an organic mild shampoo with no additives. I've been a hairdresser for over 40 years and have seen many with poor hair quality that has been resolved. Also good to check for maybe mild anemia and of course taking iron would help this. I prefer iron medicine from vegetable sources.
