Finally someone has listened!

Hi!

I know lots of you have been so helpful over the last few months and given me so many good tips and advice. I wanted to say thank you!

I had low Free T4 but most other test results (such as TSH) 'normal' with classic hypothyroidism symptoms. Also have a family history. Many of you suggested subclinical hypothyroidism and pituitary problems (poss as a result of blood loss after birth). Endo had refused to prescribe thyroxine as had all other GPs in my surgery.

I went to the last GP left in my surgery today and he actually listened to my symptoms! He told me I'm clearly not a 'recurrent depressive' and I don't have anxiety. He doesn't think using anti-depressants is the answer. He said if I had seen him weeks/years ago with my symptoms he would have prescribed thyroxine straight away. He has ordered another set of thyroid bloods before he prescribes plus other hormone tests, calcium, prolactin, cortisol, Vit D etc. He also noticed that my FSH levels are low (no other GP or the Endo noticed this). Even put subclinical hypo on my notes!

I nearly cried! Finally I feel like I'm not going crazy! It's been a long road in which I have even resigned from my job due to my symptoms.

I really just wanted to encourage others to persevere as you all suggested that I did. You advised me to go armed with the facts and info. The GP could see I knew my stuff but having said that, I didn't need to convince him. He already understood! He said that having low FreeT4 is like having low petrol - you can cope and other GPs will say it's okay because you still have enough in the tank, however at the same time you won't be running efficiently and will be feeling rubbish!

Thanks again to everyone on here. I wish everyone else the same good fortune with their symptoms and treatment.

Best wishes
