Hi As a hypothyroid sufferer myself I know the signs but I don't want to jump to the wrong conclusion. My daughter is just hitting puberty and over the last 3months her face has puffed up as if on steroids, swollen glands, her tummy is bloated, diahorrea after eating, rash over arms and upper back, pale skin, fatigued but struggles to get to sleep then can't wake up easily, complains of aches and pains, hands are cold and she feels the cold a lot. Does anyone else think this may point to Hashimotos?
If yes - what must I ask to be checked to make the blood test valuable? My little one HATES needles and it will be a major trauma to get her to have a blood test so need to get this right first time if poss.

Thanks a lot. We have medical insurance so can push for a referral if we hit a brick wall. I will post and ask for Scottish endo recommendations if I go down that route.
Slowdragon has given good advice about tests to ask for. I do hope that you manage to get a diagnosis for your daughter.
My son was around the same age when he started showing symptoms. Like you I didn't want to jump conclusions or project my symptoms on him so adopted a wait and watch attitude for almost 2 years.
However, it's now over 2 years since first GP appointment and still no further forward. It has been a long process as nobody from GP to general paeds to paediatric endo want to take it seriously or diagnose hypothyroidism.
He also hates blood tests. They have to take blood from his foot as no visible veins in arms or hands.
A recent out the blue seizure and consequent blood tests showed his Tsh 6.22 with top range 4.2 so we are about to start the Merry go round again.
Good luck with that. Like many of us I have spent more than my fair share of time in hospitals and no I will need to make a nuisance of myself to get results. If our GP isn't thorough I will go private.
My granddaughter is the same. Her mum, my daughter,has Hashimotos too. She asked her GP, who is usually completely useless, (he stopped my daughter's B12 injections, and her levels plummeted to just over 100 in 6 weeks) for blood tests and he told her they could only be done in hospital as she was 9 at the time, is this true?
No reason a GP shouldn't take bloods from a 9 year old unless it's their practice policy. I have seen bloods taken from my prem son at 640g so it's possible even when they are lighter than a bag of sugar!
I did mean your premature son you mentioned Trudes, I hope he's thriving and healthy. Good luck with your telephone consultation, I do hope the doctor will take your concerns seriously. Have you tried taking her temperature first thing in the morning before getting out of bed. I did this for 5 days as part of the info I took to my GP to ask to be tested. My temps at that point we're in the 35's.
Update: after a massive battle GP took bloods on Friday and called to say my daughter is Hyopothyroid. Also apologised saying they thought we were just being paranoid. They tested very little but gave me confirmation the following were out of range; TSH >99; T4 <5 (10-18); serum urea 7mmol (2.24-6); Creatine 67 (26-57). Thoughts welcome...
