i have only ever had oral examination or camera up my nose and down my throat to look at issues with my thyroid even when i told doctor its feeling like a golf ball is stuck and its coursing me difficulties i feel my throat is on fire all the time and i feel no different taking medication . so is a goitre always visible or do you need a scan to look in the tissues around the neck

I have always understood that an ultrasound gives a good initial image of the thyroid.
Are you in the UK. Here in France they use an ultrasound to see what's going on.
