2 endocrinologists point of view

Hi everyone, after bugging my endocrinologist here, I finally contacted my endocrinologist in the Philippines (I’m in Canada now). I told my endo about my concerns and that I was off meds for almost two years now because according to my endo here I’m euthyroid. I had my lab results last week and sent it to my endo in the Philippines. he said my T3 and T4 and TSH are normal but my TSH is in the low side. I also told him I had post partum depression so he asked me if I had Anti TPO test because I probably have/had Post Partum Thyroiditis or Hashimoto’s. I told him no because my endo here only tested my TSH, T3 and T4. I kept telling my endo here that my symptoms are back and getting worse and the only thing she says is that my levels are “normal” and that my symptoms are not caused by my thyroid. she did not even tested me for Anti TPO to see if I developed Post Partum Thyroiditis or Hashimoto’s (I am 8 months post partum) it’s so frustrating that I had to contact my endo overseas just to get proper care. I’m just waiting for my meds to arrive thank heavens! sorry for the rant. I just realized that some doctors don’t really care even though the symptoms are there. 😔

Your Canadian endo is right, your thyroid levels are euthyroid (normal). TSH is low-normal and your FT4 is mid-range and FT3 low in range.

What medication is your Philippines endo sending? What thyroid illness were you treated for in the Philippines?

He’ll be sending me Carbimazole 5mg and Propranolol 10mg

diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism back in 2102

You are NOT hyperthyroid. TSH is not suppressed <0.1 nor is FT4 or FT3 high in range.

I strongly advise against taking Carbimazole.

What symptoms are you experiencing?

Carbimazole was my maintenance and endo in the Phil told me it’s going to be taken for a long time. when I was pregnant, my Maternal Fetal Medicine Doctor also told me my levels were levated but then my endocrinologist told me my thyroid is still normal.

I would like to add the symptoms I’m feeling right now is that I feel something is inside my throat and it feels like it’s choking me. plus hair fall..

You are euthyroid, not hyperthyroid.

Ask your Canadian endo to check thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies to confirm or rule out autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto's). Your symptoms sound like Hashimoto's. If you take Carbimazole it will make your FT4 and FT3 drop and TSH will rise and symptoms will probably be worse.

canadian endo would never listen I tried to tell her about my issues but she never listens and never gave me the chance to be tested for another thyroid issue just so we could figure out what was really going on.

Of course, it won't be free. Maybe worth finding out how much it costs and if it is affordable have it done. Post the results and ranges in a new question and members will advise.

Also request they test your vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

These can upset Thyroid if too low, or cause symptoms in their own right

the thing is.. I’ve been euthyroid 2 years after I was diagnosed and I’ve NEVER had any problems and was still on low dose of Carbimazole every other day. Philippines endo kept monitoring me every 3 months as well.
