NDT / sustained release t3

Hi everyone.

Has anyone used NDT and sustained release t3 together?

I have been on a grain of armour in the past and seem to have problems crashing from the t3 component . I’ve tried using cytomel with armour and again can’t get a steady state.

I have been trying to find the right combo for several years now. Last November - I was taking 50 mcg of t4 five days a week and 75 mcg twice a week. .75 mcg of sustained release t3 was added in morning and night - this is dr Ken Blanchard’s protocol. Felt improvement for four weeks , then crashed. Slowly increased the sustained release t3 micro dosing until I got to 3mcg in morning and 3 mcg evening .

My last labs were:

TSH. .61. (.34-5 MU/L)

Ft3. 2.93. (2.5-4.3 pg/ml)

Ft4. .89. ( .58-1.64. Ng/dL )

Rt3. Pending ( prior lab was 21)

I feel horrible . Not human. While all of my symptoms can be considered hypothyroid , I have not had any success with balancing nutrients and hormones.

I’m coming to conclusion that a lot of my stress is coming from concentrating on getting well- and ultimately it is wearing my body down.

Feels very hopeless .

Thanks for any input

Kcdb,

Members do add T4 and T3 to NDT to tweak proportions but I don't think many members have access to slow-release T3.

I think you may be undermedicated. Most people taking T4+T3 combination seem to do better with FT3 in the upper third of range ie 3.68 - 4.30. You could increase Levothyroxine dose to 75mcg daily and continue with 6mcg T3 or stick with your current Levothyroxine dosing and raise T3 to 12mcg daily.

Thanks clutter.

Switched to one grain of armour two weeks ago and was trying to decide what next best step would be.

I felt much worse when t4 was 75 mcg .

I didn’t mention in prior post that I took medicine morning of labs- it is what this practitioner does.

I’m considering going off all meds and taking a break. I have it cemented in my head that it is the medicine or incorrect dose that is making me feel ill .

I did go off meds for 8 weeks last summer. Didn’t feel great - but not a huge demise. My tsh was around 4.8 and ft were bottom of range.

However, I had huge relief mentally from constantly trying to figure out if meds were why I felt poorly.

I had no energy , weight gain, etc

I knew why I had these symptoms - my thyroid was low .

So I restarted t4 37 and cytomel 5? Can’t exactly recall.

Symptoms got ten times worse !!

Yes b12 and iron are on low side , but I feel much worse when supplementing-

A mess I know...

Kcdb,

So why not increase dose as I suggested above to see whether symptoms improve? If once you are optimally dosed you still don't feel well you could try a change of NDT or T3 brand. Not every brand suits everyone and some people have to try several brands of each medication before finding one which suits.

Ditto B12 and iron. If cyanocobalamin B12 doesn't suit try methylcobalamin or vice versa.

Iron bisglycinate is gentle on the stomach and is better tolerated than Ferrous Fumarate and Ferrous Sulphate.

Hi I am also interested in using SR T3 as my body is too sensitive to T3 I start having trachicardia and high BP and headaches even on the lowest dose. I do wanna add here that I have tried armor and another NDT and my antibodies shot up by 60% in weeks. I felt miserable and had bad flare-ups and realized that it was the armour and NDT. If you have hashimoto stay away from and thyroid glandular and Armor.

Paul Robinson's excellent, thorough manual, Recovering with T3 suggests clearing the body of T4 for 6-8 weeks. That allows one to start fresh. Good luck--feel better!
