Has anyone been diagnosed with adrenal fatigue and if so what treatment did you have and how did it affect your hypothyroidism?

Hi- I just recieved the results fr bluehorizon saliva x4 24 hours test and as suspected the doctor comments I have adrenal fatgue- he said stage 3.

I have previously posted about my hypothyroidism which was diagnosed in Oct. I did some more research and decided to test cortisol.

I’m looking for some advice on where to go from this in terms of treatment for it and how it affected your thyroid and medication for hypo.

Thank you anyone

Dr Myhill's article on interpreting adrenal saliva test. Unfortunately you haven't had DHEA tested

Thank you for the link 😊. I’m hoping to print off allot of information to take to my GP about it. I’m not sure if the GP can help treatment or if I need referring. I can’t seem to find any answers with regards to taking thyroid meds. Seems to be some conflicting information saying it can make it worse as it’s going against what the pituary gland is doing but equally I don’t know if my symptoms are one or the other or both .

You can get treatment for this through a funtional medicine doctor/nutritionist in your area. Usually in the way of an adrenal support. I also had this done, discovered fatigue & tried a pig hormone support. Unfortunately it didn’t help me but I believe it works for some. I’m currently seeing a good doctor who has told me that he would be very surprised if anyone having chronic illness and thyroid problems didn’t have burnt out adrenals. Good Luck, I hope treatment helps you!

Thank you - what kind of adrenal support? I had bloods done a year before being diagnosed with hypo as I felt fatigue etc but can’t bsbk as normal - I didn’t know anything about cortisol etc then so think it’s been developing for a while. I have 3 young children so I think lack of sleep for 7 years and daily stress etc has contributed to my health issues now. I find it hard to maintain weight as I’m loosing it dispite what I eat etc and hair loss is awful. I feel emotional and depressed lately and the fatigue is awful.

Niklew,

Make an appointment to see your GP and show GP your BH results and be sure to mention your weight loss. Have you any pigmentation of the skin?

Your GP may do a serum cortisol test and if it is low refer you for a short synacthen test to check cortisol response to stimulation.

Thank you clutter - I have an appointment a week Monday with a different doc to one I have been seeing. I’m going to try and get as much advice and research done before going in. The doctors notes from bh were really good too.

Ps I’ve told them about the weight loss - I’m 5’3 and now 7 1/2 Stone so not overly underweight but I don’t want to loose any more

Niklew,

Research 'adrenal insufficiency'. Some doctors think 'adrenal fatigue' is a bit woo-woo.

If your doctor arranges a short synacthen test for you, you can find out what is involved, what preparation you need (if any), what to expect and how to interpret results in this document :

See pages 68 - 70.

Hi thank you- my gp said this is something the endo will do and not himself ... he’s taken me off all medication so now I’m left in limbo. He told me the endo waiting list here on nhs is a ‘ good few months’ so I was looking into seeing one privately
