I have posted about my daughter before. She is now 19 and has had several mildly hypo and "borderline" thyroid results over the last year or so. GP was unable apparently to do test for antibodies. I have fought and arranged phone call appts with the GP's after getting my daughters consent ,she is "of age", to speak to them about my concerns which included a concern for her growth rate and some other issues. I have been very worried that they have been affected by the thyroid and it possibly having been an issue for her far longer realised. The GP told me the NHS does not do preventative medicine when I first took her in with my concerns a couple years ago.
Now that I have got someone taking notice the new GP has done some tests for which the results came back a few days ago. I am confused because what has been flagged are a couple hormonal/oestrogen issues. The test result paper for those is not as easy to read or understand as the other more common blood tests and I know little about these issues except what I have "googled" the last couple days. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of these or what could possibly mean?
Serum LH level 0.3 IU/l
FSH 0.3 IU/l
There are others on the sheet but it does not say if they are ok or not, however the GP told me her oestrogen was low as was her lueutinising ovulation level.
I spoke briefly to the GP on the phone who said she has spoken to Endo and she read me a reply she received from them (very quickly) which said something along the lines of " you are right that Levothyroxine would not be right at this point but she definitely needs to have her antibodies checked as she could be about to go completely hypo" and they requested more tests be done to which she has gone this morning.
Annoyingly despite asking and reminding numerous times when a copy of the test results was collected the GP has forgotten to print out the thyroid results however she said they were ok which I suspect is that they are the same as they were previously which was right on the line between ok and low. Of the results I did receive were also that the creatinine is a little low and the AKI says "above range" though it is at 0.
Any help appreciated.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results
If she has high thyroid antibodies this is Hashimoto's also called autoimmune thyroid disease
About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's
Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12. Always get actual results and ranges.

Poor gut function can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten
According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)
But don't be surprised that GP or endo never mention gut, gluten or low vitamins. Hashimoto's is very poorly understood
Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal and slowly lower TPO antibodies
SlowDragon Thank you for your fast reply. I am going to post the thyroid info when she gets it, hopefully today. We always get copies of our results ( Im hypo also) but it seems the GP must have forgotten to print out everything as she gave us copies of the other results.
What I am really looking for at the moment is anything about these other hormonal issues (LH and Oestrogen). Maybe they would be affected by what I suspect is a long term "sub-clinical" hypothyroidism or maybe they are something all together unrelated. And what do they mean? What would cause such an issue in a young girl/woman?
From what I have read it may be related to her pituitary gland. They have checked the cortisol and are checking it again on these next tests.... the results of that test for 0900 random serum cortisol was 533nmol/L with a ref range of 125-624 nmol/L. It says "random serum cortisol does not exclude adrenal insufficiency in acute illness".
Sex hormones. Follicular Stimulating Hormone and Luteinising Hormone, usually tested for fertility and menopause. There should be a range or ranges for different times of the month and age groups. Sorry, that's all I know.
