It will take some time for you to feel an improvement. You do not state what dose your doctor provided of levothyroxine.

Usually it is 50mcg to start with a blood test every six weeks with a 25mcg increment and so on until your TSH is 1 or lower and a Free T4 and Free T3 in the upper part of the range.

All blood tests have to be at the very earliest, fasting, and allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose of levo and test and take afterwards. Levothyroxine should be taken, usually when we awake, on an empty stomach with one full glass of water and wait about 1 hour before eating as food interferes with the uptake of the hormones.

Your doctor should also test for thyroid antibodies next time as well as B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. All have to be optimal.

Some prefer a bedtime dose in that case, if having a blood test next a.m., you miss this dose and take after test and night dose as usual.

What do you mean NOT YET PRESCRIBED? If he has not seen these results, I'd phone the surgery now and get a prescription for 50mcg of levo and with your stomach empty, take your dose with one full glass of water and wait an hour before eating. You should have a blood test every six weeks with an 25mcg increase until TSH is 1 or lower. You also need a FT4 and FT3 to be towards the upper part of the range. Usually we take it first thing when we awake.

You also need B12, Vit D,iron, ferritin and folate tested next time. All tests have to be at the earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and wait till after test before taking thyroid hormones.

You have an Autoimmune Thyroid Disease called Hashimoto's and going gluten-free can help reduce the antibodies which attack the thyroid gland until you are hypothyroid.
