Could this be a thyroid issue

In september I had a terrible virus, Ive largely recovered but since then ive had 3 swollen lymph nodes that wont go down on one side, on and off ear and jaw issues one side, tiredness, muscle spasms/weakness and achiness. An ent believes this is all allergy related, I was tested and a mold allergy was found but it doesnt seem to explain this all to me or why these allergies came on suddenly. Over the last few years ive had increased anxiety and issues with my menstrual cycle, temperature usually between 98.3 and 97.4, i have a puffy face and scalloped tongue as well! Thyroid issues run in my family and I was wondering if anyone thinks its worth inquiring with a doctor about? Or can I just not fully shake these allergies/virus?

Scalloped tongue is a symptom of B12 deficiency. Have you had your vitamins checked out? Low vitamin levels could also make recovery from viral infections more difficult.

For full evaluation you ideally need TSH, FT4, FT3, TT4, TPO and TG antibodies, plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested

Low vitamins hinder thyroid and upset Thyroid blood test results

See if you can get full thyroid and vitamin testing from GP. Unlikely to get FT3

Private tests are available

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results

Poor you. Was it the Epstein-Barre virus or mononucleosis? It can be a precursor to hypothyroid call Hashimoto's. In fact, we had some great lectures about that and they even found the virus within the thyroid gland. It is a definite possibility. I hope you can start on some really healthy program, juicing vegetables or some high nutrient shakes if you have a blender. There is an autoimmune diet you could look into, AIP diet.

Yes, I was going to mention EBV ~ (hello Heloise you night owl!) It's really worth doing your own tests, especially if autoimmune problems are prevalent in the family. It may only show low vits etc., but GP will not necessarily do the relevant tests, and you'll never know.

Good luck with it all and Merry Xmas. Mamapea x

Thank you all- I have an appointment with the ent next week for a follow up to the allergy tests and will mention the thyroid issues in my family and my symptoms. I did not have EBV or mono, although two different doctors said whatever virus I had was a strong/long lasting virus similar to mono that was going around at my college. It was easily the worst virus ive ever had.
