Hashimotos and supplements

Hello all. I've been doing my research on supplements that I can take to support my thyroid function, but also to reduce my tpo antibodies. I currently supplement selenium, lacto free and attempting gluten free.

Does anyone have any views positive or negative on the following:

*Zinc (without copper)

*Probiotics

*Vitamin B12

*Magnesium Citrate

*Thiamine/B1

*Ashwagandha

*Apple Cider Vinegar

I am just wanting some advice before I spend a load of money on things that might not help ! Xx

Ideally, before supplementing you should have a blood test which would reveal deficiencies. Sometimes we have a reasonable amount of vits/minerals but it is essential to know for sure and then can supplement till we have optimum. The doctor might say all are fine but somewhere in the range isn't good for us as everything has to be optimal.

If you are having digestive problems, ACV mixed with juice or water can help, or digestive enzymes which come in tablet form.

100-200mcg Selenium is good thyroid support. None of the others are thyroid support.

It's usually recommended to have ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate tested to see whether supplementation is necessary.

Ashwagandha is often used as an adrenal support but I can't remember whether it is for high or low cortisol.

Apple cider vinegar before meals is used to raise low stomach acid and improve digestion.

I am taking Magnesium citrate now and I hope it will also help constipation. Magnesium as in Epsom Salts in an occasional bath and food grade of course is old fashioned cure for constipation too, it is part of the ingredients in Andrews liver salts.

I make my own kefir to get probiotics. It is so easy to make, you can get a starter set from Happy Kombucha. Many more bacteria than commercial live yoghurt...

I take these to get digestion going as I reLise now I am not absorbing nutrients due to hypo condition..

I tried Ashwagandha and it had an adverse effect-it sent my temperature plummeting and I didn't feel good on it at all.

Your list of supplements is good .. not sure about the Ashwaganda I decided not to take it

These , and others , will all help support your very Important Immune System , which mostly, around 80% , is found within the Gut !

.. and if there is an antibody issue .. then I’m sure they would benefit you ... as would a few others ..

I see you have noted not taking copper .. copper is vital to the cells of the body and if there is a deficiency it COULD contribute to causing aneurisms .. ACIDOPHILUS .., has been a must for me ... direct to the Gut where it is vital for immune strength

It would be better to take a good Vit B complex, rather than one or two on their own as it can cause an imbalance.

Thank you all. It's all so confusing. My antibodies are concerning me a great deal, as well as the symptoms of hypothyroidism. I am hoping I get a good endo!
