Repeat bloods ok - but still feel rubbish!

Hi lovely folks, I hope everyone is having a good day today.

I had some really great advice a little while ago in regards to my results and I’ve been lurking ever since - everyone is so helpful & it’s helped me not feel so alone - thank you for that :) .

These are my new results after upping my thyroxine to 75mcg from 50mcg, & going gluten, soy and dairy free!

I think from what I can gather they’re ok, the dr has just requested another test for another 2 months time, (I presume incase I become over medicated)...

I’m still struggling with exhaustion, vertigo and balance problems which are really making it hard to function normally. (I’m working on my vitamin levels which I know could be contributing factors to this).

But the symptoms I’ve had for the last year before my thyroid levels went array in September are the same symptoms I had before initial diagnosis years ago.

Contrary to the GP’s belief I know I’m not just ‘anxious’ - I knew months ago before my figures went off that something was going on with my thyroid due to my symptoms (& because most of my eyebrows fell out - AGAIN grr!)

I’ve been reading a lot about balance issues & research showing high thyroid antibodies causing damage to the surrounding balance systems...I feel like it really makes sense!

So....I really don’t know if this is a stupid question or if it’s obvious...(I’m really sorry if so!) but can the autoimmune aspect of all this make us feel very unwell despite our ‘numbers’ being ‘ok’?

Sorry for the long rambling post, & if it really is a silly question!

Best wishes to everyone

Lou xx

If you are not feeling OK, then your numbers are not OK. Some people would feel well on those levels, but obviously you need your FT3 higher. No matter what your doctor thinks - I doubt he knows that much about thyroid, anyway.

Your balance problems could be due to low B12, but they could also be because your T3 is too low. You really aren't on a very high dose, and there's plenty of room for an increase in levo, or some T3 added in.

'I’ve been reading a lot about balance issues & research showing high thyroid antibodies causing damage to the surrounding balance systems...I feel like it really makes sense!'

I don't know where you read that, but as far as I know, that's not true. Thyroid antibodies do not attack any surrounding systems. If they're high, the can cause symptoms, yes, but when you have Hashi's - and I presume you are talking about Hashi's - only the thyroid is involved.

Are you on a gluten-free diet? Are you taking selenium? These measures could help lower antibodies and make you feel better. But, you must keep your TSH low. Don't let your doctor reduce your dose on the pretext a suppressed TSH is dangerous. It isn't!

What's happening about those dire vitamin and mineral levels you posted a month ago?

Did you ask for an iron infusion for your below range ferritin?

Did you ask for an iron panel and full blood count? Was iron deficiency anaemia confirmed?

Have you started eating liver regularly to help raise your level?

How much Vit D are you taking?

How is your B12 deficiency going? Did you get advice from the PA forum? Tablets for B12 Deficiency is unusual, injections are the usual treatment.

If you still have dire nutrient levels you're still going to get symptoms, and I expect this is the cause of your exhaustion, vertigo and balance problems.

Hi Susie

I hope you’re ok, thanks so much for the reply.

So far I’ve not had much luck with the Drs, I’m going to try and get another appointment tomorrow with another different doctor again to try to explain I’m still not feeling well & fight my corner again for the tests & infusion & more advice on the B12 & vitamin D.

It sounds pathetic but I really struggle with confidence & I find it really hard to express myself clearly and I find they just dismiss me very easily as just anxious or depressed.

I know it probably sounds ridiculous given my iron levels but I’ve been vegetarian for well over 20 years & I just can’t face liver or any meat, I’ve been taking my iron tablets religiously with vitamin C & having as many other iron rich foods as I can though.

I’m still taking my vitamin D 5000iu & B12 but will quiz them on this again.

Thanks again for all your help

Thanks so much for all the advice @greygoose, will make sure I don’t let them try to reduce the dose. The last dr I saw before that blood result gave me a big lecture about tsh, heart problems and osteoporosis so I may have a fight on my hands! 🙄

& Thank you for your balanced view on the vestibular issues - no pun intended! :) ! I really possibly do read too many random nonsensical studies in the hunt to solve the dizziness!

Thanks so much again xx
