I was wondering if it's true with people who have thyroid issues which is an autoimmune disease? Are we more than likely to have other autoimmune disease? For example MS? If so how many of you have other issues? If you do not have any other autoimmune diseases but just thyroid problems then please do also comment. Thank you

I first was diagnosed with Hashimotos in jan 2016. After being referred to an endocrinologist who ran thorough blood tests I was referred to rheumatology.

I know I had a positive ANA (they think SLE) and MI-2 for connective tissue disease and 12 months down the line and feeling terrible and desperate for help I’ve been diagnosed with Myositis as well. I’m also being tested for sgjorens sorry can’t spell that.

Early on my diagnosis with Hashimotos I knew if you had one autoimmune disease you are likely to have others but I know I’m very unlucky to have 3 and now a possible 4th.

Antibodies are key to a diagnosis so try to find a thorough Endo or ask the be referred to rheumatology if you feel you have other symptoms. Problem is many symptoms overlap so it takes time to get a diagnosis & treatment to help

Coeliac disease is associated with thyroid autoimmune disease. Both are autoimmune conditions.

My father and my uncle both had MS, but neither of them developed another autoimmune illness.

I was diagnosed with UC in the early 1970s and although I did get another autoimmune illness, Graves, it wasn't until almost 40 years later, and 20 years after I had had surgery to remove my diseased colon.

There is an increased susceptibility because of genes, but it isn't automatic. In my own case I think that life experiences triggered the onset in both cases.

If you have one autoimmune condition, then yes, you have a higher likelihood of having others.

I have Hashi's, and possibly mild Psoriasis, but that hasn't actually been tested for, nor diagnosed. It's just a guess on my part. I don't think I have anything else.

I’ve got (in the order they started) , asthma, IBS, Graves Disease, Dupuytren’s contracture which some say is autoimmune but I’m not 100% sure on that, it is certainly hereditary and now I’ve also got inflammatory arthritis.

So I think once you’ve got one autoimmune condition then you’re likely to have more. I suspect they hunt in gangs!

I have Hashimotos, lichen sclerosus, periodontal disease (possibly autoimmune) and like Greygoose suspect psoriasis. Not formally diagnosed as i coldn't get an appointment for weeks with the GP that is keen on skin conditions. Shortly after I made the appointment it spontaneously cleared up either because that is what psoriasis does or the fact that I had upped my vit D3 to "winter levels" for three months or E45 cream is really cracking stuff...possibly a combination of all 3 ! There is nothing really to show her except some very very mildly pink skin left over from the itching so I cancelled the appointment and will wait until next time.

Hashimotos and Pernicious Anaemia both autoimmune. Suspected rheumatoid arthritis so recently had ANA & anti dns antibody screening.

I was diagnosed with coeliac at 10months old then hypothyroidism in my late thirties diabetes in my forties and cll in my fifties.

My sister has raynauds and sjorgens her daughter has hypothyroidism.

Obviously autoimmune diseases run in the family.

I have Primary Billary Cholangitis as well as hypothyroidism, they have both been diagnosed in the last 10 years. I hope I do not get anything else! Hypothyroid has been the most difficult to treat effectively.

I had my thyroid removed in 2015. My trachea moved and stopped me breathing. Before this I was not on medication and had no knowledge of thyroid problems.

Since the age of 8 years I had bad sinus problems two operations later they appear to be much better. Age 65 I developed gall bladder trouble and had it removed. The stones were calcium which was unusual.

I was adopted so knew nothing of my past medical history.

I only met my two sister in my forties. One has since died of bile duct cancer. The other one has exactly the same problems, i.e. sinus, gallbladder, and now thyroid.

Stress also causes problems and diet. I was never overweight but still developed gallbladder trouble. None of us had Hashimotos.

Sorry I forgot to say that my niece has crohns and has also had her thyroid removed.
