Hi everyone,

is there a problem in getting the above?

My Pharmacist has given me Morningside liothyronine for the last couple of months which has been o.k., when I asked him if he got it because it was cheaper,he said he couldn't get the Mercury Pharma one at the moment. Anyone know if there is a problem with it?

Just as well that there is another brand now!

Blondpalomino,

My pharmacist hasn't had any problems obtaining MP T3.

Yes, for the last three months I've been given Perrigo by the chemist where I pick up my prescription and is weaker and you cannot cut them - they just crumble. I will be seeing my GP on Monday and will ask her for MP which I used to get.

I've never heard of Perrigo.,maybe they are a different strength.I have 20mcg daily. The Morningside ones don't have a line through the middle, so not so easy to cut,I end up with one piece bigger than the other, but not a big problem as I take half twice a day. I don't really know yet if they are better/worse than the Mercury ones as I have only been taking them for less than a month. I believe that Teva are also supposed to be supplying them.

I've got a feeling that they may be trying to boycott MP because of Concordia so are prescribing other brands. Just my feeling.

mischa,

Which Perrigo product are you getting? They produce 5, 25 and 50 microgram liothyronine tablets.

So I am very surprised if the pharmacy simply dispensed 25 microgram tablets Perrigo against a prescription for "20 microgram liothyronine sodium". But if the prescription said something about taking 5 micrograms four times a day, then it could make sense.

Perrigo is one of the USA producers of liothyronine tablets along with SigmaPharm, Mylan and Pfizer.

(Perrigo bought Paddock about six years ago: perrigo.investorroom.com/20... )

Hi Helvella

I'm prescribed 15mcg of T3 but take 20 and a bit so I make up the rest with my own. I have 5mcg tablets. But rather than keep buying my own I would prefer it if they would just prescribed 20mcg. I take 10mcg and a bit am and 10mcg later. I know it sounds crazy to take a bit but I've found I've become more sensitive to dose changes recently and I'm not sure why.

When I was on MP I was taking just under 20mcg but since being on the Perrigo I have found I need more. So to me it's less potent.

When I saw the Endo recently she looked at my blood results and was quite pleased and asked me what I was on and I told her 20mcg of T3 and 100mcg of T4. She said she would write to my GP that I should stay on that dose. So today I'm seeing my GP with the aim of upping my T3 to 20 instead of 15mcg. Fingers crossed.
