Hashimotos - Lump in throat and insomnia

Hi All,

I'm back again... feeling very frustrated and mildly panicked!

1) Does anyone have experience of a horrible permanent lump sensation in their throat? Has is resolved... how do you resolve it? I've had this on and off for 6 months now and have given up gluten, coffee and dairy... but makes no difference

2) May hair quality is getting worse... the hairs themselves are finer and fewer (not patchy loss like Alopecia).. will optimal treatment reverse this? I had very thick hair 6 years ago before the diagnosis and treatment

I have Hashimotos and Alopecia Areata combined.. I was diagnosed 6 years ago and have been on the merry-go-round of dosing T4 only and am now in a combo of T4/T3..

Currently taking 100mcg T4/Levo and 20mcg T3/Lio per day also taking Vitamins:

5000 IU Vitamin D every day (Holland and Barret)

200ug Selenium (Holland and Barret)

Complete B - Vitamin B-complex (Holland and Barret)

Your advice, experience and help is most welcome!

My first suggestion is to ditch the H&B supplements, they're generally cheap rubbish full of unnecessary fillers and bulking agents, often using the wrong form of ingredients.

For Vit D, in your last thread when you said your level was 83, Clutter suggested you take 5000iu alternate days throughout the winter. 5000iu daily is too much for your level and as D3 is stored, not excreted, there is a danger it can build up to toxicity level. As you are Hashi's you might find a D3 oral spray is better absorbed than tablets. If you don't want to use a spray then softgels are better than tablets as they contain oil to aid absorption eg Doctors Best.

Also, D3 has important cofactors which you should be taking - K2-MK7 and magnesium. D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems. D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of of of, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds. Magnesium helps D3 to work and comes in different forms naturalnews.com/046401_magn... you should choose the one most suitable for you.

Their Complete B contains the wrong form of B12 - cyanocobalamin instead of methylcobalamin naturalnews.com/032766_cyan... and 25mcg is of no help. It was suggested you take 1000mcg sublingual methylcobalamin lozenges, then you'd need a decent B Complex such as Thorne basic B. It also contains folic acid whereas methylfolate is the better choice.

Sorry I can't help about the lump in your throat, I have no experience there, but you might be interested in this article about hair loss and nutritional deficiencies healdove.com/disease-illnes...

I get it all the time ..it's never really gone....unfortunately I haven't found an answer to it ...it's like I'm coming down with an infection that never manifests as such.I think under and over medication makes it worse so I'll be interested to see if you get some answers ...

Hi Welchy, I might have an answer to that horrible lump in your throat. It is horrible and was something I first noticed around the time I became TSH but 35 years on a GP diagnosed the cause - indigestion of all things, which fits with our being hypothyroid.

Although she prescribed antacids I remembered reading on this site that we hypos often have low acid and people recommending cyder apple vinegar, so, I did a yoga practice called Neti (not as you'll find it online but the original traditional yoga way) and now often sprinkle food with the vinegar. It works. The lump does sometimes return but I can quickly get rid of it now.

I do hope this works for you too and if you want to know about the real traditional neti just let me know and I'll send you a link to my website.
