Overactive symptoms but test "Normal"

Hi everyone, around 6 years ago I started to get palpitations, then I started to lose weight despite eating more than ever. Then came the panic attacks. Doctors initially thought it was thyroid/anemia but tests were okay. Put on beta blocker for the panic attacks and anti depressant for anxiety. Had never suffered from all this before-came out of the blue.

So 6 years on I'm still having symptoms. Very petite, cannot gain weight. Difficulty swallowing at times. Hair falling out. Nervous for no reason. Tired but can get hyper/restlessness. Balance issues. Anxiety and panic back again.

Blood tests show normal tsh.

Iron was low end of "normal" few months back. Anyone have similar experiences?

Normal or within range TSH doesn't mean a thing. What about FT4 and FT3 levels? Do have any actual test results?

Your low end of "normal" iron possibly indicate iron anemia although hard to say anything without actual full iron panel and ferritin level. Have you had that test performed?

Thank you for your reply😊 Had a bunch of blood work done back in January including thyroid,b12,iron etc. When I seen Doctor regarding results,he said he was happy with them although the iron was low end.Just told me to eat my greens and sent me on my way!

Anyway the latest results I have had last week "all normal". I was tested for b12,iron levels, liver etc aswell as thyroid.

However, I have never asked for the ranges. I go back in a few weeks so will ask then. As far as I know, I don't think I have been tested ft3/4 levels...

Thanks

Doctors in general look at the ranges and as long as it's within its range, even one point from bottom of the range then for them it's "all normal" but people feel good when those results are on optimal level and that's a big difference.

Ask for a printout of your latest blood results and put them in a new post so people can comment. Also if FT4 & FT3 altogether with antibodies haven't been tested request it as well. It will give us a full picture. If your doctor refuse to do it for you, you could always do private finger prick tests.

Thank you so much for your helpful advice. As soon as I go again I will ask for a printout and post on here. Yes I agree with you on what your saying. I seen a new doctor this time who was very sure it was my thyroid as all my symptoms matched. It was the receptionist I spoke to last week who said they are fine🤔But hopefully when I actually see the doctor i can ask them further/what ranges were. I am actually thinking of going private if I get no joy!

Many thanks!

Yes dont let a gp tell you your ranges are ok and normal- never trust their opinion as they know very little about the thyroid, always get a print out. docs are useless and endos are equally incompetant. Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. Yes it's either they look "normal" or "okay". Will be sure to get a printout. Will be looking into it further,as I am convinced it's thyroid(hyper).

Thanks

Yes heard it can be dangerous. Great that your panic attacks have eased off. I started getting palpitations again few weeks ago. They happen when I'm just sitting down/not feeling anxious. On beta blocker for them when needed. Pins/needles sensation in my feet/hands amongstthe other symptoms. Will definitelybe chasing them up to post on here too.

Yes i was on beta blockers to calm my heart down and blood pressure but only took them for a little while until thyroid meds were given. Yes never suffered anxiety or panic attacks in my life until having thyroid dsease, i too would be just sitting down and i would start to tremble and feel very anxious and bang!! I found it was no good trying to stop it- its have if it needed to come out, if that makes sense, my husband would sit there with me till i had calmed down and just hug me, and my 12 year old daughter would do the same when hubby was mot around. I wish you luck and keep in touch.xx
