Can anyone tell me if it would be appropriate to take Adrenavive (or a similar product) if you have high afternoon and evening cortisol – or is this kind of adrenal support only appropriate if you have low cortisol? I have been trying to lower my cortisol for over a year now. Unfortunately adaptogens don’t seem to agree with me, so I’ve been using zinc with some success, but I feel that my adrenals have had a battering for several years and would need extra support. I’d be grateful to hear from anyone who has had high cortisol and used adrenal support products successfully.

Adrenal support for high cortisol?
DoDoc: Usually Adrenavive or any glandular for adrenals is for low cortisol output.
Holy Basil is used to lower high cortisol. I would just take it at those times when cortisol is high.
Thanks mischa. I tried holy basil, but it upsets my stomach.
DoDoc: High cortisol is associated with high stress levels. Reducing stress in your life will help reduce cortisol levels. Also vitamin supplements that support adrenals are essential, i.e. B complex, Vitamin C (1-2 grams), Vitamin E and a multi mineral.
There are adaptogens that are supplosed to balance adrenals. Ashwaganda, Rhodiola and Astralagus but i've never tried these.
There is another more stronger supplement called Phosphatidyl Serine that does reduce cortisol. But I've read that it is a strong supplement.
Also there is a book by James L Wilson called Adrenal Fatigue - the 21st Century Stress Syndrome that has lots of information regarding the adrenals and cortisol. Hope this helps.
