Have just received results of blood test which indicate high levels of thyroglobulin and peroxidase. Hormone levels ok. I took test because of a number of increasing symptoms over an number of years (fatigue, depression, weight gain/weight loss, dry itchy skin, thin hair, sore muscles, IBS) and because family history of auto-immune diseases (thyroid, pernicious anemia, severe psoriasis, type 1 diabetes). Really want to feel a whole lot better. What should I do next? Test was a private test so GP unaware as of yet. Not on ant meds for this but taking anti depressant and HRT!!!

Thank you

Frances

Hi Frances

Welcome to the site! If you post up your results together with ranges (numbers in the brackets) someone will be along a little later to look at them for you I'm sure.

You didn't put the ranges. :) Results without ranges are meaningless.

However, I can tell you that you don't have high levels of thyroglobulin and peroxidase, you have high levels of thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroid peroxidase antibodies. Not the same thing. This means that you do, indeed, have autoimmune thyroiditis - aka Hashi's.

However, your TSH says that your thyroid is struggling at the moment, but you're not quite hypo yet. So, you won't get a doctor to take any notice of these results. But, don't give up on them. Continue to get tested at regular intervals.

In the meantime, you can help yourself by adopting a 100% gluten-free diet, and taking selenium.

Next time you get a blood test, make sure that it is as early in the morning as possible - before 9 am - after fasting over-night. And also get your vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested, because they could be low. :)

Thank you. But, that doesn't change anything I said. Your FT4 is low, but your FT3 isn't too bad for someone not on thyroid hormone replacement. So, I very much doubt you would find a doctor willing to treat you at this point. :)

I went private £175 via Medichecks. Very good service. I’ve recently had a 4 month re check ( bit cheaper) as My symptoms had gotten worse and can see my antibodies have increased. You get a blood sample via your local phlebotomy service and then send it to Medichecks. About 14days later you get an electronic response which includes a consultant written view of your results. I opted for the ‘Thyroid Check Ultra Vit rT3’ test. This also did a vitamin test which highlighted I was just ok on Folate. It has been my lever for pushing forward with my GP. WWW.medichecks.com. Good luck 😉
