Hi everyone

Had thyroid and parathyroid so removed last year due to papillary cancer, I was put on leveroxine 125 mg, I have been getting terrible side effects which are affecting every part of my life.

I'm forgetful, can't think of the words for things unable to handle any kind of dispute without losing it , blurry vision and so tired sometimes I can't keep my eyes open and to top it all of all that my joints especially in my legs feel like that of a 90 year old. I am 65 and up until my op I was a very energetic and healthy person

I have been taking leveroxine and the GP has just changed it to l-thyroxine hennin I start it today, but have been told it's exactly the same, can anyone tell me if that's true

Anna

Do you have blood test results from before and after the op? These would be helpful. The two forms of levothyroxine contain the same active ingredient (levothyroxine) but different excipients (fillers etc.). It may be that you absorb one better than the other. The real questions are whether you have been given sufficient levothyroxine and whether you need some liothyronine (L-T3) or possibly need natural dessicated thyroid (NDT) which can be obtained but is not licensed in the UK. The results of blood tests are a starting point so ask for these if you don't have them.

Yes my bloods were done and all was okay, by the way I forgot to mention , I live in France and lever thyroxine is being taken off the shelves here as there have been so many people with bad side affects like me. I was just worried as I was told both Meds were the same. Thanks

It would be useful to see your blood test results, we are often told they are OK when they are not. When you write 'leveroxine' I assume this is what we call 'levothyroxine', the generic form in the UK. I think Henning is a German company and perhaps there have been problems with the French generic so they have switched you to a German branded tablet.

So your calcium and parathyroid levels should be fine but worth keeping a check on them now and again.

Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 checked

Post results and ranges if you have them

Likely you need small addition of T3

Post your thyroid results- TSH, FT4 and FT3

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH and most consistent results
