There's nothing normal about any of that. Your dose should probably have been increased to 75 mcg - although difficult to say without seeing your results.

Did he test before reducing it to ten? Stupid number, anyway! And, what was his justification for stopping it altogether?

It's really not surprising, though, that since you stopped taking the levo, your hypo symptoms have returned. You've gone back to being hypo!

Do you have any idea how long it will take you to see an endo? Probably months. So why not go back to your stupid doctor and tell him - don't ask, tell him - that you want to go back on the 50 mcg levo while you wait?

How long had you been on the 50 mcg before going back to the doctor? It takes at least six weeks to feel any improvement. And, after six weeks, you should be retested and your dose increased by 25 mcg. 50 is not going to do much for you, because it's just a starter dose. I don't think your doctor knows anything about thyroid!

I was on 50 for about 4 months. Is the problem I am having with my tongue a known symptom? Also could fall asleep at work but then wake every hour at night.

Yes, it is a known symptom of hypothyroidism. Do a search for "scalloped tongue".

Low thyroid hormone levels can make the tongue swell, pushing it against the teeth, causing the wavey edge. If the right treatment is given then the tongue will reduce in size and the tongue edges will return to normal.

There are other conditions which can cause the same issue - low B12 is one, and possibly low levels of other B vitamins.

But then low B12 or low B vitamins generally is also common in people who are hypothyroid and under-treated or untreated.

Yes, it is. But, it could also be due to low B12.

You shouldn't have been left on a starter dose for four months, it's too long. Do go back and get a retest. And, at the same time, you can ask for your vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested. :)

50mg of what, reduced to 10mg? Are you talking about Levothyroxine or T3?

What's your diagnosis?

It will be mcg not mg if your underactive.

Levothyroxin. Yes diagnosed as under active.

There is no 10mcg Levo, 25mcg is the lowest dose. How can you be taking 10mcg Levo?

Post your test results from when you were on 50mcg Levo and let's see why it was reduced.

Also, what are your latest test results, please post them with their reference ranges.

Not seen my results but will ask for them when I get in to see the doctor

Doctor may refuse and can be intimidating. Ask the receptionist. We are legally entitled to our results under the Data Protection Act 1998 so ask for a print out (don't let them write them down, they often get them wrong!)

SeasideSusie,

Actually, when Teva returned to the market in the UK (October 2016), they introduced 12.5 microgram tablets. (As well as 75 microgram - but I only add that for completeness.) :-)
