New to site, hope to speak to other people, just feel like I am struggling every day and no one understands how I am feeling really unwell with hypothyroid. Awaiting blood results done for repeat thyroid function test a week ago. Have so many questions and don't know where to start.

Heavy periods since age 13, recent weight gain, tiredness every day, feeling cold but sweating, acid reflux, losing hair, breathlessness. Feel like giving up with this illness at times.

Welcome to our forum Ava324 and you are among sufferers, Members are very supportive and will help all they can.

First thing is that all blood tests for thyroid hormones have to be at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and if you were taking thyroid hormones you'd allow a 24 hour gap between last dose and test and take afterwards. The TSH is highest very early a.m. and that's why we advise early a.m., fasting as doctors seem to only look at the TSH.

First, I will give you a list of clinical symptoms and I think that will be a good start:-

Ask GP for B12, Vit d,iron, ferritin and folate and we can be deficient which also cause symptoms.

Post your results with the ranges (ranges are important as labs differ). Always get a print-out for your own records and you can post if you have a query.

Bloods were done before 9am, fasting and I left 24 hours between dose and blood draw.

That's good and put your results on a new post with the ranges.

Your GP should check TSH, T4, T3.

Endo checks TSH, free T4 and free T3. Thanks

Can you get these results, you are entitled to copies.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting and don't take Levo in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after.

If the endo test was not done under these conditions then ask GP if you can have bloods tested

Or you can get private tests

Medichecks Or Blue Horizon Thyroid are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw or

Endo did these bloods last week and I have not been allowed access to them hence the wait until the phone call next week. Blood test was done under those conditions.

Sometimes doctors just say the blood test is 'normal' without giving us the results. If you would like some responses from members you have to also post the ranges.

Just had my bloodwork. Fasted. Took my meds 2 hours before. Had no idea. Thxs for that info
