Fast Heart rate and Nausea

I had my Levothyroxine increased 4 weeks ago from 100 to 125mcg. I have had some days where I feel well but others where I wake up at 5am with a fast heartbeat and nausea and generally feeling unwell. I've found it quite scary as I never usually wake early. Can anyone advise if this is normal when dose increased and does it go?

I used to have that reaction when on levothyroxine. My heart also speeded up wherever and whenever. I had many investigations and heart monitors but cardiologist could find no answer and was thinking of how to resolve the situation.

It resolved itself when I switched from levo to NDT and then T3 only.

I am not saying that you would be identical to me as we are all so different but maybe try taking one antihistamine tablet 1 hour before levo and see if it helps resolve the problem as it is very disturbing. If the antihistamine resolves the problem, ask for another make of levothyroxine as it could be the fillers/binders which are affecting you at present.

Thanks shaws, I will try it. I don't get this all the time. In fact all of last week I was ok. Can it still be the fillers?

If it was the fillers I think you'd have the symptoms daily. So it could be that your body is settling into your increased dose. I hope so.

Have you gone strictly gluten free as you have Hashimotos

Also did you ever get B12 and folate tested - very likely low with Hashimoto's

As you supplement vitamin D are you also taking Magnesium

Other supplements

Selenium is good for improving conversion

Vitamin C for adrenal support

Probiotic for improving gut bacteria

Might consider Zinc and vitamin A too

I have gone strictly gluten free. My B12 and folate Results were within range but SeasideSusie said they should be higher so I take supplements for both. Same with Vit D. I am also taking Vit C. I started taking Selenium but stopped as I didn't want to start too many supplements at once but I think I'll start them again. I have looked into Magnesium but not bought any yet, will do.

I'm not taking probiotics, zinc or vitamin A yet. Are there any brands you can suggest please? Many thanks

Yes very wise not to start too many things at once

Magnesium is good for heart rate and improving palpitations

Calm vitality magnesium powder is cheap and easy to use. Best afternoon or evening, must be at least 4 hours away from taking Levo, so if you take Levo at bedtime take magnesium late afternoon

Start low & slow, can cause diarrhoea if take too much.

Probiotics- lots in health shops or online. Some have to be kept in fridge. I swop around each time, currently taking Higher Nature tablets.

Great film definitely shows why just testing TSH is inadequate

When taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results
